Opinions on mods for my E39

First a little background on me. I am a car enthusiast and suffer from uncontrollable car ADD as I buy and sell my cars constantly.

I own several cars and my experience is mostly with Porsches although my first track car was an E46 M3. I am considering modding my very nice 2000 M5, the car just turned 26,000 miles and because of the low mileage and excellent condition (recently acquired from original owner) I was hesitant to mod the car thinking initially I would keep t stock since it was such a nice original example.

I don't want to do anything crazy but I am interested in lowering the car as I feel it sits a little high and I want to get 19" wheels. I am open to some exhaust work and that's probably about it. I have a fully dedicated Porsche track car, a reasonably rare collector Porsche, and an 08 Carrera S as a daily driver that splits time with my Tahoe. No intention to track the car just drive it a little and enjoy one of my favorite M cars. This is my 3 rd E39 M5.

I would appreciate input and experience on best way to lower the car while gaining some I improved handling. I need to be fiscally prudent as most of my money goes in to maintaining my track car which those of you who race and DE know can get expensive.

Thanks in advance for your input.

This is your 3rd E39 M5? What did you do to mod the other ones? There is a lot of information on this board. Search for coilovers, BC seems to be a relatively inexpensive and popular one. Search "Timmay tips" for muffler delete, which is popular and cheap. Search "Evolve" and learn about the tune, it makes the car more responsive and driveable while adding additional power. Another popular mod is the E60 short shifter. Search will be your friend here.

Oh, and CONGRATS on the new acquisition! I just got my first BMW in January 2012, a 2001 Black M5. I can see why this would be your 3rd one.

What's your track car? I run with regional PCAs several times a year. I generally find Porsche drivers are faster than BMWs, maybe I've bumped into you before?

Sikessr...thx for the info all good ideas. I didn't mod my first two but thought it wold be fun to do some mods to this one.

Bimmerule....i used to drive a 2001 Turbo, it was silver with black wheels and a full cage. I had a big TRG decal on the rear since they did a lot of the work to the car. From there I moved to a Synergy racing built 2008 Carrera S, 2650 pounds and 345 HP, that car was ridiculous and fun but way more than I needed so I sold that to a friend and now I have a 1990 RSA turned in to a full track car...adjustable suspension, full cage, fire suppression the whole deal.
