Koni Yellow struts

I've seen passing mention of 'fake' Koni shock absorbers or struts in the past, but is it really an issue?

I spotted these going fairly cheap (USD$815) from eBay seller kdperformance:

Koni Yellow Sport Shocks Struts Set 2000-2003 E39 M5 540I Front And Rear | eBay

Forum sponsor JLevi Streetwerks has the set for the same price, but their shipping to Australia is almost 3 times the eBay rate.

I was going to go for OEM struts, but on a price/performance analysis the Koni's look hard to beat. I've got a set for my GT, but they were sourced locally so I'm sure they're the genuine article.

Any thoughts welcome.

Cheers,
Adam.

I ordered mine from Tire Rack and it was cheaper with shipping than that listing.

Oddly enough, I've decided to sell mine I just installed a few months ago and my B&G springs (I want something stiffer).

How did you isolate the stiffness issue to be shock/strut related and not spring related? Just curious.

Oh, no, it's spring related. The shocks are spot on, but the springs are definitely too soft.

Aside from your springs too soft for your liking, what is your impressions of the shocks for a replacement of OEM?

The shocks are good, definitely better than blown stock ones. Smooth, not too harsh, and a little better performance and no loss in ride quality. I've always liked Koni Yellows.

Is that the Circuit MS offer? I have an account over at Bimmerforums, but haven't posted enough (count=0!!) to be allowed to send a PM to get a quote on that offer.

Locally, I can buy Bilstein B8 for $838 shipped, but my understanding was that in this price range, the Konis are the better choice.

Cheers,
Adam.

Can you share your understanding? I'm very curious on this very subject.
