I'm pretty sure all of the tunes manipulate your software instead of replacing the physical chip. If you remove it, your car won't work.

Edit: Carbon buildup FAQ (summary)

Check out this link. Also check on the Evolve tune. Not sure if it will also remove the fault code, but it can delete the secondary air pump (SAP) feature and is very highly rated on this board.

It is not a "chip", it is a flash tune to the DME.

It is hard to tell for sure if the car has something other than a stock tune without software.

You could call Dinan and provide your VIN number and they can tell you if a tune was ever purchased for your car and what level tune was purchased. But they cannot tell you for sure if the tune is currently running in the car.

Unless your car has the over sized throttle bodies, MAF's & headers, your only guessing if the tune is currently running on the car without software to read what is going on. Supposedly if you have the Dinan sized throttle bodies, MAF's & headers the car will not run very well with a stock tune??

You may also want to check out what Evolve offers as well, may be more expensive on the surface than the Shark, but considering you will not have to buy new MAF's, the difference in price may be not an issue in the long run? Evolve offers SAP delete and also can open up the window for post Cat O2 sensor errors along with resolving many performance and driveability issues.

Easy way to tell... For Dinan software... Where does your idle sit ? On the dot or a bit higher
Reason why a stock car idles right on the dot and a Dinan tune stage 1 and up has a raised idle

I think he is in Ontario Canada?

I did hear that Dinan played with their idle a bit, but from my last conversation, they indicated that rather than having 2 idle speeds for standard and light weight flywheels, they went with a single stock idle speed and if you had the light weight flywheel the idle would be about 100 RPM higher?

At least this is what I was told by Dinan, have not seen this in person.

Dinan should put a sticker on the front side if the driver's door opening. As others said, no way to know whether it was overwritten. Try a Shark tune and if it fails because you don't have stock SW (look up code--lots of posts about this specifically), then you need to have it programmed back to stock before trying the Shark again.

i called dinan today and found that my car has the S2 program in it , the rep at dinan asked why i wanted to know if there was a way to remove the tune. i told him the reason (aa code removal) .. then called shark and they told me that the car would have to be flashed back to stock before i could install the shark software, he told me that a 10amp battery charger needs to be put on the car during the software download, the shark tune leave the sas in not ready state. so if thats the case i will just leave the car alone and get a obd2 unit and just erase the code before i need a e-test , same not ready condition!!!...and i can keep the S2 tune..

Or you can go with evolve.. Have better software, NO ses light, and have your air pump in a ready state.....
Hard decision I know...
