Rubbing Issues with Stock Tires / Wheels

This is not entirely M5 related, but I hope I can get some suggestions from here. I recently picked up a 2001 M5 which needs to be repaired. I also have an earlier model E39 DINAN 5 which has Stage II suspension on it.

While the M5 is undergoing surgery and what not, I figured I can use the wheels off it since the tires are literally brand new Bridgestone Potenzas. The DINAN 5 already had OEM Style 65 M5 wheels on it with 265/35 rear Sumitomo tires.

I had always thought the DINAN looked like it was lower in the back.... almost like it was sagging a little. I asked the guys at DINAN about this and they said it all looked fine. I even went as far as replacing the front springs with H&Rs to hopefully drop the front a bit more.

Any-hoo. I put the M5 wheels & tires on the DINAN yesterday and now the rears will not stop rubbing.... every bump, every major undulation on the road, any 35 MPH+ turn, etc. It is worse on the Right Side. The rear tires are Bridgestone Potenza 275/35/18. I would not have considered them too big for the car. The DINAN 5 is a 1998 E39 540 and as I said, it has a Stage II DINAN suspension.

Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I have a set of DINAN M5 Struts & Springs kit that I was thinking of installing. Would these fit the 540 anybody know?

Thanks!

put your hand under the rear fender of both cars. M5 has factory rolled fenders 540 does not.

I am pretty sure that the fenders are the same, but the finder liners are different.

I am driving the DINAN 5 to where the M5 is shortly, I will check. It is rubbing on the edge of the fender, so it's not really a liner issue at the moment. At least for now, I don't think so.

The metal part of the fender is the same part number for the M5 and the other e39 cars, so what the problem is that you are seeing.

My 540iA Sport has style 65 rears all around with new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S in 275/35x18 that were rubbing slightly on bigger bumps until I rolled the rear fenders(actually now rolled more than the M5 fenders).

It was done by hand in the factory. It is one of those details unique and slightly hand made making the M5 a tad more special.

When I inspected the M5 I ended up buying I noticed the rears were rolled. Good to know they're factory. I was afraid someone had done something to the car.
Best,
