What OBDC software should I get?

I came across my ancient and quaint Peake reader today and realized I really like to get some PC based software for checking out the car. I have an OBDC/USB cable that I use with VAG-lite on my daughters TDI VW, but I would like to find something that does the BMW, preferably MYs 2000 - 2008. (BTW VAG goes way beyond OBDC for VWs - you have to have it to retime the fuel distributor after changing the timing belts, etc).

Any suggestions? And is there a BT OBDC plug that works with an iPad app, by any chance?
