Wheel selection SUCKS!

I am having a very hard time finding a used set of wheels for my E39 M5.

I search the forum on a daily basis and can't seem to find anything decent with tires for 3k or less.

I love the factory wheels but I just want something else such as BBS, Volks, CCW's, HREs, Fikses, ETC .....

I am not a fan of buying the adapters but I know that the M3 market seems to have more wheels available but the center bore is different if I"m not mistaking.... what can be done?

Any leads would be appreciated and thoughts on this ?

Thanks!

I just bought the Varrstoen ES and they bored the centers out for $100. Direct bolt up, aggressive fitment too. If the offsets are right, just about any machine shop can bore out the centers.

Agreed. Do not let the center bore size discourage you. Any wheel can safely be re-bored to the correct size to fit the e39. Focus on finding a wheel that has the right size and offset for your taste, and have a shop machine the center bore. You would be doing what most wheel manufactures do to their wheels. They do not manufacture a wheel specifically for the e39, they just machine the bore to fit one.

I hate to say it, but you gotta pay to play if you want the big names. Varrstoen are the best alternative if you are not looking to spend a ton.

I understand your approach on that but I'm gonna have to disagree.

The resale value after buying wheels and tires brand new is absolutely terrible.

For example, I sold a set of HREs off my last z06 for 2k and the previous owner gave me receipts showing he paid 6kish.

Just saying, nice quality wheels can be bought used for great prices but none ever seem to pop up for the e39 m5

I've been around these cars for quite a while. There aren't many of them (12k vs 100k+ M3's), not many who have them put fancy wheels on them. Of those that do, not many sell. It's simple logic. Hence, you have to pay to play. When they do sell, they can ask for the price they want simply because even at 3k it's still a bargain.

Yeah, with that kind of budget, id fine a set of work brombacher's with a 5x120 hole pattern and re-barrel them for better offsets for the e39. Get them re-bored for $100 total and be fat dumb and happy.

BBS LM's go for $3k used here regularly, Dinan wheels $1800-4k (for a NOS set), HRE's arent sold here all that frequently anymore..but they did sell for $3k+ a set when they did.

I'm sure with due time I will find a set but maybe this was more of a rant lol.

I do like the idea of having the wheels bored to M5 specs. May explore that option and start visiting the m3 forum.
