Cold Air Intake?

I'm looking to run a cold Air intake by afe.. Does anyone know the gains from the upgrade? AFE Stage 2 Cold Air Intake Type Cx BMW E39 M5 5.0L V8 99-03

I'm wondering if it's possible to run Active Autowerke Cold Air Intake & Brake Duct Kit BMW E39 M5 with the cold air intake by afe? 2000 BMW M5 - Cold Air Intakes

Is there a cheaper way to go about this and get the same results?

I installed Evolve's CAI last month and...

...I'm very pleased. Superbly constructed, easily installed, excellent location for the IATS. Very clean underhood appearance. Hard to imagine anyone being disappointed. I'd echo the earlier recommendation to await availability of the Evolve through RK.

Evolve developed and has been retailing their CAI...

...designed I understand by Vantaam, for some time now. I bought my unit directly from Evolve in Britain. RK Motorwerks is in the process of taking over N.A. distribution for Evolve and, while I'm not affiliated with or speaking for them, it's my understanding that they're pretty busy on a number of fronts, but should be marketing Evolve's CAI soon.

There's a significant thread somewhere on the Board that details the testing by Evolve of Vantaam's original design before they decided to manufacture it. Very useful to track it down.

My car has the AFE junk on it. Bought it with it. Not really sure how it can be called cold air intake as it uses the bottom half of the stock air boxes, the top half and the duct work to the engine are "new" for the most part, the censors use the stock parts and the only real difference is cone filters and a bridged duct between the left and right intakes. Do yourself a favor and save up or wait for something better... Otherwise put cone filters in your stock air boxes and you will have the same thing as the AFE kit.

did you dyno or butt dyno

far more superior in price is my opinion.... AA intake is not in this discussion since its just an add on to the stock system and maks one small change

and for the OP I run My Carbon Fiber Dinan intakes with some of the AA kit basically the open brake ducts for brake cooling...

Pre/post dyno test results are available...

for the Evolve CAI, albeit when it was in prototype form, but you'll have to Search (this forum) to read it as I do not know how to transport a link (sorry about that). A very informative and compelling read.

I will echo what M5 Daemon has written about its discernible butt-feel (see his searchable thread --see above apology -- from a few months ago), and I'll add that its manufacture is close to being a work of art.

Among other laudable features, I particularly appreciate the location of the threaded bung-hole for one's IAT sensor (way low, driver's side) as it facilitates an easy hook-up with the two needed wires from the driver's side MAF, which of course obviates having to mess around inside the EML housing for the other end of those very same wires.

AFE draw in hot air and you will lose 10 hp, run away!
