Philips Ultinon Bulbs

Hey guys,

I just picked up my new beast but unfortunately one of the bulbs burnt out almost immediately. I've been searching around and saw these bulbs a few times and was wondering if anyone has used this specific bulb. Even better, has anyone bought from this seller on eBay?

Ultinons are more for those who prefer form over function. I have used them on another vehicle, and replaced them within weeks due to lack of output lumens. Youre better off using the 85122cm bulbs unless you are looking the have blue on the ground and greatly decreased output.

Yeah I mean I liked the 6000k color but for a DD function, is def more important. Look is still important tho, just not MORE important if you know what I mean.

I also realized there is 85122, 85122+ and 85122cm. Any difference?

85122 is oem new bulbs. They will seem a little yellow at first but will colorshift in time and will yield most lumens.

85122+ is designated for the bulbs that will take longer to colorshift and output more lumens for a longer duration over their lifespan.

85122cm were designed to replace single bulbs, more closely color matching the color shift used bulbs experience. Often bought in pairs to have more color from the getgo.

Sounds like the cm might be your bulb of choice.

I prefer the the 85122+ but any of the 85122 offerings from Philips are good.

I agree. The cm will provide the best output for length of time used.

A common mistake is that people want that bluish purple that they see in oncoming traffic and buy higher color temp bulbs. What you are actually seeing is the light prisim effect made by the colorband that is generated when the light hits the shield inside the projector. The output is actually white, while the color they see is when the colorband crosses field of view. Thats why its seems like multi color flicker on a car with tighter suspension.

Good thread.

So 85122cm D2S will be a direct replacement for factory pre-update M5 HID headlights, right?

Yes they will. Just to verify, I searched the philips database for a 2000 m5 and it also uses a d2s bulb.
