3.45 diff build question

Hi guys.

I wanna build a "shorter" dif for my E39 M5.
I have some question:

There is any difference between the type 210 and the type 215 diff?

I planning to buy a used E23 733i diff (pre 1981)type 210. Because it is 3.45 ratio. (probably it will cheap)
I have a E34 M5 3.23 type 215 diff at home.

Plan "A"

I buy a used E39 540i diff. From the E23 733i 3.45 diff the pinion and the ring build in with E34 M5 sper unit in to the E39 540i diff house.

Plan "B"

I use my E39 M5 3.15, type 215 diff. From the E23 733i 3.45 diff the pinion and the ring build in with E34 M5 sper unit in to my orig E39 M5 diff house.

It is possible? Does anyone have some experience or advice about this transpaltation? I am not sure the TYPE 210 pinion and ring (fom E23 733i diff) will fit on the sperr what is from E34 M5 3.23 TYPE 215 diff.

TYPE 210 and TYPE215...cloudy for me.

The 210 diff won't fit into a 215 case.

The differential carriers are different so you can't interchange parts between them.

Do you have any idea how should I manage 3.64 diff ratio in my E39 M5?
Pinion and ring set from what?...

Is it possible?

Guys, this is really not that big of a deal...the problem though is BMW ring and pinions are generally not available new....but no biggie...plenty of place to find them in used BMW Diffs.

3.38 Z8
3.45 1979-1980 BMW 733i (one of the few 6 cyls with the large 210mm ring gear aka typ 21)
3.64, E32 750
3.62 E46 M3
3.73 Euro E24/E28 M5/M6
3.91 E34 3.5L M5
4.10 Motorsport
Not quite sure where the 4.10 is, but you don't want that much gear in an E39 M5 anyway.

Happy hunting!

Regards
Jerry

Check with some vendors, like Diffsonline, Koala, VAC, etc if you looking for just the R&P.

There is also a place in La Jolla, name escapes me at the moment, they can sometimes get Euro parts. Contact is Carl. Let me see if I can find an ad in Roundel, they usually advertise.

Regards,
Jerry
