For me its pointing towards a 'going bad' bank 1 Exhaust CPS mate.

I see fault codes for both bank 1 and 2 exhaust cps there. Is there any reason why he shouldn't just replace both of them?

Well if it was my M5 then all 4 CPS and Vanos Solenoids etc etc etc, would be new.
The reason I suggest Exhaust CPS B1 is because it is the only CPS code showing in theory.
72 and B9 are relating to the solenoids, and I believe when we see solenoid codes and a CPS code then its a CPS issue.
However if we just saw 71, 72, B8 or B9 on their own with no CPS code then it points towards the Solenoid Board.....all theories of course.
So I am reading his codes as follows 0A along with 72, 0F and B9 .... 0A is the culprit.

Another good rule of thumb is to relate it to known maintenance history, expense of various repairs, and research into which codes could be considered "trigger" codes versus which ones are "consequence" codes..Myself, I believe you are on the right path here..CPS are known consumable parts..Vanos boards, solenoids are somewhat problematic, however they also are a little rarer that CPS's…Good Luck with CPS replacement…S

when I had a CPS code, exhaust side bank 1 i believe, it also threw a Vanos code. Replace the CPS and I've never had the Vanos code again.
