'01 Headlights

I have purchased some replacement adjusters for my headlights was wondering if anyone had ever pulled off the yellow corner reflector from the clear lens while they had their headlights apart.

Thanks,

The previous owner removed the reflector from the headlights on my car.

I can take some pics if you would like to see it.

Some quick cell phone pics and headlights are dirty, but you get the idea.

Can't tell from your photos,do you have an oval hole in the black plastic where the orange corner covered it?

the OEM adjusters are so brittle that imperfections in the road surface probably caused them to break.

The replacements are much better material and a little beefier.

Cool.

I now see that the corner is lit with the angel eye bulb thru the fiber optic tip that is protruding from the oval hole.

Think I'm going to terminate/remove that fiber optic piece and cover the hole from the inside with something black.

Thanks!

Just to give you a head's up about two other options for the corners rather than the no corner option. You may be well aware of these two options, but you did not mention if your goal is to have no corner reflector or if you prefer Euro clear corners, but don't want to pay for new euro lights. If the latter is the case you could try replacing your lens with an aftermarket lens. I know Schmiedmann does sell aftermarket lens for facelifted e39s. I think a couple people have done the swap either b/c the wanted clear corners or because their lens' were pitted/scratched /cracked. There may be other sources, but Schmiedmann is the one I know of as sale of replacement lens' for the facelift lights are not as common for the pre-facelift lights.

Schmiedmann - Lighting and indikators in/outside for BMW E39 - New parts - page 3

I think some people have also painted their corners, but it does not turn out exactly like the euro lights. There should be a couple of threads on painting the corners on the board somewhere.

Thanks for the heads up Solo12.

My lenses are in need of polishing which is one of the other task to do while there off/apart. I haven't decided wheather to polish them off or after reassembly.

I'm going to look for some orange reflective stickies and decide how it looks with just the little oval. I have some of the red/white stuff and it lights up pretty well with headlights on it. So maybe the orange will be subtle during the day and still give some night time safety.

I'm going to start another thread about lens protectant film.
