P0340 - Powertrain Error ... but engine runs fine?

I've been getting a SES Light and when I read the code it gives me the following:

P0340 - Powertrain

Camshaft Positions Sensor "A" Circuit (Bank 1 or Single Sensor).

Car was running fine when the SES came on, so I reset it.

1 Week goes by, no SES light.

SES came back on again today, same code, but the the engine still runs and idles fine, very smooth. WOT good power, no hiccups/hesistation, fast throttle response.

Any ideas whats going on? Maybe loose connection or wiring going bad?

A vague I suppose so but not really. It means that the PCM is not receiving the pulse signal from the CPS so you have a dead CPS. Possibly a broken wire but I doubt it. In all my time this could has been 99% of the time CPS the few times it was not it came with many other codes. If you only have the one code replace the CPS.
Do you know which one? Did you know that a large number of us will tell you replace them in pairs or just replace all 4? If the CPS are the original ones for the car it certainly seems they get sluggish after so many years and cycles.

ditto what he said, and do all 4 unless you've replaced some recently.

Thanks for the info.

Could you provide the part numbers for all 4 along w/ which ones belong on which side?

I checked Pelican but its not very clear which is which to me...
