I wonder if it could be engine mount related. You can see the engine flexing as quick throttle input is applied and the engine could be tapping on the metal part of a failed engine mount. Just a theory of course.

In my car engine mounts are ok, have noticed if they were broken when separated front subframe from the engine when changed rod bearings.

Nope just my manual, flashlight, tire gauge, and some Canadian Tire money that I always forget to use

I mentioned earlier that i have same weird sound issue like you. Notived today that rattle is definetly louder shen engine have more load on it, uphills and just most torque range Can it be loosen oilpump chain?? It sounds like very sharp chain slatter to me, i noticed sound aftet evolve powertune so can it be something timing stuff etc. Like engine responses too hard and quickly....
Hope Raikku reads this and give us a comment.

I have this same issue and also have the Evolve Alpha N power tune. I am plagued by a 1b 4d (air temp sensor) code as well. I did the AIT relocation kit and still no resolution. Does anyone have good instructions for the IAT install? I want make sure I did it properly.

Edit: I will be replacing my timing chain tensioner at the young age of 68,000 miles, as well as the driver side CPS this week. I will let you know if anything changes.

Describe how you wired(include colors) the IAT sensor in and what parts you used.
1b is it the first thing the peake reader says? If yes it is a reference telling you to use table 18 to read your codes from.

I checked the wiring last night, turns out I had connected to the wrong end of the yellow blue wire! Fixed the wiring and the code is gone, car feels stronger as well. Would the air temp code cause the car to run rich for safety since it could not get a temp reading? I think my car has been running rich since I installed the Evolve tune but now that the IAT is wired properly, throttle response and power have both noticeably improved. Unfortunately the rattling/scraping sound is still present under load at low rpm (2-3000) in higher gears. After some test driving I stopped to get gas (91 since it's CA) and added two bottles of Techron. That cured the noise. I can't remember which thread it was but another member had the same symptoms, noise unless an octane booster was added. I also replaced the timing chain tensioner last night, it did not effect the sound.

Just listened my engine with stethoscope, and sound is not coming from vanos. Its coming somewhere lower. When putting stethoscope on the engineblock, just under front of the plenum and stabbing throttle from idle, there is sharp knock(sharp knock when listening with stethoscope, and that usual knock when listening just outside of engine). So it might be just spark knock, but which causes this is still a question
