  • Lame goo machine flat tire fix that forced me to purchase donut
  • Lack of adjustable headlight option the Euros got
Could someone go into greater detail on item 4? I was not aware of a Euro option in headlight adjust ability that is not available in the states.

good picture here (granted, not an E39): Bimmerforums - The Ultimate BMW Forum - View Single Post - *DIY Euro smileys w/ motors & adjuster switch

reminds me of the adjuster on my 05 WRX STi. You can adjust how far down the road your headlights reach - aim them low for city driving to be kind to other motorists, then bring them up to see further down the road when at highway speeds.

Thanks for the info. It is interesting and I did not know this was available for the e39.
I suppose if one wanted this feature, and did not mind disabling the auto level feature, they could disconnect the link from the front suspension control arm to the headlight level sensor and use something like a miniature linear actuator to adjust the sensor forcing the height of the headlamps.

The headlight adjuster is (legally in the UK at least) only for non-xenon cars. On all vehicles sold in the UK (and EU I believe), where xenon headlights are fitted they must be automatically adjusted. My halogen 540i has this adjuster switch, but it is just a "low budget" version of the xenon's automatic adjustment setup.

Another thing I hate about the car:

Before going for a drive, I almost always tell myself "this will be a calm/collected drive - so relax and enjoy the view"

Within 3-4 minutes into the "drive" I forget about the view, I forget about relaxing - my pulse increases and all I can hear is the exhaust note and all I can see is the RPM needle -

She makes me be a bad man - almost all the time

Coming off 12 years DD'ing a '97 E36 M3 (got my M5 in October '11..)

-creaking dashboard. Thinking about jamming some black cloth tape down there between the bottom of the windshield and the front edge of the dashboard..

-vague/noisy/sometimes-clunky steering. I think the E36 steering is a benchmark of sorts, but even with that disclaimer I find the E39 M5's somewhat vague and disappointing

auuh, that's it. What a car.
