Also, if this CAT MAF repair you already had done was in reference to the same code, I would definitely be having words with the Service manager!
Thats not cool if they did some, IMO, pricey repairs that didn't fix it! Warranty on work, which wasn't seemingly the right work?! They definitely owe you something for that fact, that is, if it is recent and the problem isn't fixed. Even if this problem is causing cats to go bad, they should have done better to actually get to the root of the problem. Band-Aid brand bandaids are expensive (BMW Cats, for those who don't follow my logic, many look at me funny, [/explanation])
Wow Georgia you have a lift as well, that ia Great, and the CATS are aftermarket I think.
Well, then checking how they were installed is definitely in order, and if they are generic type, that may be the problem if they perhaps damaged and 02 sensor... were they welded in? We'll see what you see when you're under the car.

I agree. If they didn't fix it, they should make it right, not ask him to spend more money.
louiscipher1965,
Please fill in what you know, starting with the above.
Also, did more than one shop work on the car? Was the work done by a dealer or indie? If indie, do they only work on BMWs, or Chevys and Kias, too?
Why weren't OEM CATs put back on the car? Is the shop recomending a 3rd set of CATs the same as the shop who put in the aftermarket CATs?
Please give us the complete history, months, mileage, etc.
Ok,
The CATS were first replaced I think at around 104k miles.
The SEL light was still on.
We then replaced the MAFS (BOSCH) and the light went off and stayed off up to about 450 miles.
After all this has been done, the SEL light will come and go, even sometimes when I fill the tank at a different gas station it goes off right away and stay off for a bit.
After the MAFS were replaced I did notice an increase in power. even now when driving down the highway and engaging the SPORT button, it advances right away and you really feel it.
a) Who did the work?
b) What brand of CATs?
c) What led them to believe the CATs were bad in the first place?
d) What were the exact codes thrown before and after the CATs were replaced?
e) What led them to believe the MAFs needed replacement?

a) A company in Athens, and they are great people to work with.
b) The CATS i am not sure of the name brand
c) before the CATS were replaced, there were all sorts of codes misures on bank 1 and 2 and CAT codes.
d) The exact codes that were on the machine I did not know but after the MAFS and CATS were replaced I only get one code fault which is a commone one which was stating that the CAT on BANK 1 is below threshold, at that time that is the only code that it would through.
e) I myself stated to them to go ahead and replace the MAFS since they never did, and that helped a great deal by clearing up alot of codes including the misfires.
