Automobile Magazine's Best Sport Sedan

I knew I was going to like what I saw when I read the Table of Contents of my Feb. 2001 Automobile Magazine: "2001 All-Stars: The best cars, SUVs, truck, and minivan - and, yes, there are a great many BMWs on our list."

Although they don't truly have a pic of the beast, they did it justice by making the M5's own Hollywood star. You guys should definitely take a look at the issue.

Here's what they said:

Quote:
For the first time since maybe the abolition of the 55-mph national speed limit, our editors are in unanimous agreement. Everyone here voted for the BMW M5 as his or her favorite sport sedan, putting aside our predilection for picayune argument in order to honor this most incredible automobile. The M5 is a true supercar made all the more exotic by the fact that it doesn't even look that outrageous. There is no phallic posturing in the M5, just a few muscular protrusions atop the handsome 5-series body. These are the only hints of the 394 draft horses lurking at the rear wheels. And this aura of bankerlike respectability not only protects its driver from the wrath of John P. Law, but it also justifies the interior, which if installed in any other supercar, would make it the target of accusations of needless decadence.
People are truly cosseted inside the M5, not only the driver but also the additional four passengers, and this, finally, is the greatest thing yet about the M5 - you can share the experience with your friends. Think of it as a lower-volume, slightly cheaper Porsche 911 with two extra doors and a nicer cabin, and you'll understand why we all agree that the BMW M5 is the very best sport sedan on the planet.
I've always respected the people at Automobile!! Here are a few other BMW winners:
Best coupe: BMW 3-series
Best Mid-size SUV: BMW X5 (with a nice pic of it flying a few inches above the ground after coming off a slope!!)
Best Lux Sedan/Wagon Under $40K: BMW 525i/530i

VIVA BMW!!

I like to refer to it as the ultimate "ultimate driving machine".

It just don't get any better.

Thanks for the post, Anzir.
