I posed myself that question this weekend while walking into the Palisades Mall (in Rockland County, NY) after seeing a beautiful black m5 parked in the underground garage.

http://bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums...=728183&page=1

According to this link most recently posted by TimW, the total # of M5 sold in the US until May 2002 is 6839. Based on past years' results, I'd venture to say that an additional 150-200 M5s were sold in June and this part of July. We can assume 7000 M5s sold total.

Now we have to figure out how many US M5s on this board. Obviously the best place to go for a rough estimate is the "How many beasts on board?" sticky thread. Currently there are 663 replies to the thread. I took a random sample of 80 posts from the middle of the thread (two pages worth), and concluded that about 60 of each 80 posts(75%) are from US E39 M5 owners (the remaining are non-US E39s, US and non-US E34s, z8s, and M3s). 75% of 663 = about 500. Finally, we do have to make some sort of correction for the number of US E39 M5 owners who are members of the site but have not posted on the thread - i'd say there are about 100 of those owners...though i have no basis to make this guess.

My conclusion, therefore is 600/7000, or 8.5%, of M5 owners are on this board.

Pretty impressive if you ask me.

last time I checked, we represented something like 8% of the total M5's. See the thread "How Many Beasts on the Board." Blue Max has tallied sales data and board data - there are posts on it here somewhere.....

I wonder how maby M5 owners that are Guests and not registred. There is really no need to get registred since all info is in the archives (almost).

The first line indicates unique monthly users (84160 in April)

Second how many "reloads" ie how many that came back. That is alot more.

Apr 84160 16.53%

509126

424966 83.46%

May 88739 18.62%

476544

387805 81.37%

Jun 77956 17.06%

456699

378743 82.93%

Jul 52796 17.58%

300183

247387 82.41%

Also, searching in the profile under the question "My Car" returned 1255 hits!

Also 18 Z8 in "My car" and 12 Z8 in "Secondary car".

Wow!

Now, if only we could get NavTech's attention, get them to update their data more often, add more, and cut their prices by 50%!! If they did that, I'd actually buy an update!!!
