(OT) Just got rear ended..

So I'm driving along in my X5, 1000yds from my home, I come to a stop at a red light, and all I see in my rearview is a tan amercian hunk of SH!T sreacming right at me. I was frozen, did not even move, and thenBOOM!!!. She must have been going 20MPH, I figured the rear end was wrecked, much my to my suprise and delight the bumper was just scratched, and the exauhst pipe bent a bit. Now, I need not tell you her car looked like hell, But the X5 helled up like a champ, just a few battle scars under her belt.

Just another testement to back up the claims that the X5 is the safest vehicle in the world

I don't understand how some people can just drive in a straight line, right into someone's rear end. Seriously, that takes some serious brain power (PhD in Moron-ology?) to accomplish something like that. I fell very bad for your X5! Hope that it gets well soon!

Mike,

Thank god it wasn't the Z8

Did the safety switch in the back go off? It disables the starter and fuel pump. You would have known if it went off

Did the driver of the POS at least apologize??

Young,

She will pay up soon.....I can''t stand when my car is dirty, but when it's damaged, I'm damaged.....

Chris,

The car did not shut off, so I asume that the switch was not triggered.....Interesting concept, but it did not trigger.......
The lady (mid 50's, Russian with thick accent) got out of the car and the first thing she said in her thick accent was "it's ok, no problem, we go" I asked her "where do we go?" she said " not major, no problem, it's ok, I can leave" In my most obnoxious tone I said " no it's not ok, you no go anywhere" ........

Thanks for the well wishing guys, my body aches abit, mostly from stress I guess, but I would imagine if there is any damge to my back, I would feel it in a few days.....Any doctors on the board with any suggestions???

I have come close to rear ending a couple folks a number of times myself so I can sort of understand what might have happened. Often times even if you're following at a distance, a number of factors can come into play such as cars in front suddenly stopping in front from highway speeds. Even with excellent reactions, it'd be hard to come to a complete stop fast enough to avoid rear ending someone. Fortunately for me, I've always made it a point to never tailgate anyone so I've always had time to stop. I hate people who tailgate! Other factors can be talking on the cell phone, checking makeup in the mirror, actually trying to read something, etc. Once I was rear ended lightly by a gentleman in an older car. I saw him coming in my mirror and he was desperately trying to stop but I guess the car had no brakes. Fortunately he was going slow and it was in my old Jeep which had a trailer hitch so there was no damage.

In any case, are you planning on getting your X5 fixed soon? I assume that she had insurance, right?

I had someone hit me at 20mph (my est.) in an Austin Metro, it heavily damaged both front wings, bonnet, lights smashed etc,......I was dreading getting out to have a look at the M5, but to my delight, it was but scratched.

Mike,

So sorry to hear about your mishap. What is it with the scumbags out there?

"she said " not major, no problem, it's ok, I can leave"

I am soooooo glad that you dealt with the situation in the manner that you did. Undoubtedly she wanted to skate like most folks! What a b*tch...

My wife instigated a collision in her X5 soon after I scored the vehicle for her. We ordered the SAV with pretty much every option including rear airbags which had been activated by my dealership. One morning on Central Expressway here in Dallas she rear ended a Suburban soccer mom and did a ton of damage to the front end of the X5. She was probably going about 20 mph when her car kissed the Suburban's rear and the best part was that no air bags deployed whatsoever. My baby son who was asleep in the back didn't even wake up. No joke! It was a costly repair but the vehicle is a tank. I can confirm that.

Again, sorry to hear about the wreck and we're all glad that you're ok!

DWP
