Bad Rod bearings with only 30k on 03 engine?

Greetings, I have a 2000 m5 with an 03 engine with 30k miles on it. I switched from bmw 5w30 to mobil 1 15w50 1 month ago. No oil consumption. This sound was not really noticeable until last week. This car use to be so quiet. the first video is a cold start and idle. The next is revving to 3000rpm while warmed up. Sound is louder when car is warm. Thought it might be the rod bearings. Thanks for reading.

The first thing I would do is get an automotive stethoscope to isolate where the noise is coming from - have a buddy rev the car a bit and see if you hear it more from the front/top of the engine or from underneath the car behind the wheel. Pull your oil filter and look for metallic specs.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that this isn't a rod bearing, the reason being is that it doesn't sound like a really even knock while idling, kind of hit and miss. I'm hoping that this is a timing chain guide or tensioner. This noise sounds pretty bad and you'll want to get this sorted before you drive it. I'm of the opinion that switching oils didn't cause the motor to suddenly fail, and I won't get involved in a discussion about what kind of oil to use other than to say I've been very happy with TWS 10W-60 in my 135K mile '02.

Two follow up questions.

1) Why were you using 5W 30 on a 200 MY car when BMW specifically says to use 10W 60 TWS

2) Why would you change to Mobile 1>

1. I have an my2003 engine and under the hood it now says to use castrol 5w30 not tws.

2. I read through the many oil tests and threads and I was going to switch back to 5w30 if i had any consumption problems.

Please let's not discuss why whatever oil was used... that's not relevant to the OPs question, which is in regards the sound that he is hearing and whether it could be due to bad bearings.

Ok, sorry I did not know

What is the story behind the 2003 engine. Are you certain its got 30K miles?

As far as the sound goes, I would suggest stop driving the car ASAP. Obvioulsy I am not an S62 expert, but that doesn't sound good.
Your vanos and chain sound about the same as mine (cameras and microphones can exagerate sound) but that clunk clunk clunk sound is def something that needs to be looked at by an S62 expert, not just a "bmw Indy".

Ask around, and the board, for someone who is familiar with Rod bearing near where you live.

I'm pretty certain the engine had 25k when I bought the car. There was this story from the dealer about how my car was a trade in but she did not know it had a bad motor. She sourced a low mileage wrecked 2003 M5 and had that engine installed. The documentation on this seemed to vanish as soon as I bought the car. The car was the quietest thing that I have ever heard up until a few weeks ago. And its fast. No loss of power with this sound but ive stopped driving. The car however did have a little bit of rattling in first gear but not that noticeable. I just wanted an E39 M5. I was 10 years old in 1992 and fell in love with Chevy Chases Black E34 M5 on "Nothing But Trouble". I have a BMW Master Tech Indy and will get the car to him soon. He did mention I need a new seal last time he saw my car besides 3 of my diff carrier mounts being bad.
