S62 engines - big end bearings/rod bearings

Hi I just wanted to know, since I myself posted such a question just this week, why so many people seem to post saying that they think they have a rod bearing failure as they hear knocks or other sounds. And the frequency with others seem to post back suggesting this as a cause to various ailments. Are these engines made of fruit or something!?

This is a 5 litre V8 engine - most of the cars I see on here have done pretty low miles yet you would imagine, reading the posts on here that rod bearings are going all over the place. I have had, and still have several other BMW's - I have never had an issue where I would suspect a rod bearing failure - its almost unheard of for example on the I6 engines. I even have an old 1.8 Ford Mondeo which has done star-ship miles with no hint of knocking from its bottom. I would expect a V8 like the S62, with proper servicing should do well over 250,000 miles before major internals start giving way.

Just wondering ... don't shoot me. My car is in the shop 3rd November so I'll soon find out what my little knock is!

I have driven and repaired BMWs for ~20 years and never worried. The S62 is worth worrying about.

Read all these threads, that is the reason for the paranoid behavior. I don't think it is paranoid, but I don't want to believe it. I am more scared than most because I found a oil scavenging solenoid not working on my car. I have no idea how long it has been out. Do me a favor and if you do have a bad bearing ask if they would test your noids to see if they are working.
