Girlfriend X5is Vs M3 at the lights...wanna race !!!

Well l'm proud of my girlfriend.....why you ask, well l've gotta tell you the story she shared with me.
A few days ago in Orlando's pouring rain my girlfriend pulled up at a set of lights in the new truckster beast our X5is, and knowing an "M" car when she see's one, it wasn't too hard to spot the red M3 ("achtung" plate) 2 lanes to her right. Being that the X5 is so much taller then the mini beast, she got a good look down and across at him and thought " I wanna race this M3 guy" I asked her if thats what she really wanted to do and her answer was "hell yeh, I wanted to beat him cos l've got the bloody fast X5 and l look good in it"......good enough answer for me. I told her that the M3 would beat the X5is no probs, she knew that it was very fast, but still wanted to "get it on".....
As you know words don't have to be exchanged when wanting to have some green light fun between two wanna be racers. She noticed him looking over at the big boy with those big bold fat assed tires in the rear, she then felt he wanted to get it on as well. She spent the next 10 seconds looking across at the other lights to get the big jump on him on the change over.
Bodies are still and focused and the only thing moving here are her eyes from his car to the lights.
Green....and they are off and running. The X5 jumped off the line and pulled out clear of the M3 no probs with 350hp and 47 inches of rubber clawing at the wet ground but as the 1,200lbs advantage to the M3 kicked in, it was just the M3 by the otherside of the intersection and was just storming away from the truckster after that. I said what did you think when he got out in front of you, she said "damn it, l thought l could hold him off a bit more then that" I asked her did he get off the line as quickly as you thought....answer " with a car like that he should be ready to race at every light" what a answer. I only wish l had been there to have seen the whole thing. A very proud moment for me and the X5 even though we lost the battle, there are so many other potential kills out there for us both. She need to pick some easier targets then M cars though.
I will teach her how to use the steptronic next time and how to hold some pressure on the brake for a second or two and touch the throttle at the same time to lift the rpms up past 1,000+ rpm, and maybe you could hang in there for another 50 yards???
Next l will have to teach her the correct launch on a M5.
APPLES and the wanna be M3 killer:pop:

Apples:

What a lady! She is most definately a keeper. I am also surprised to ehar the M3 got that good of a start in the wet. I would have thought the X5 would have held a lead longer then that, obviously this guy was no rookie. Great story .

Hello Apples,

Why not supercharge the X5 and get some extra ponies? After all, it does have 4WD, so it should have a significant advantage in launching with no wheel-spin.

But, while I am impressed with your girlfriend's desire to street race, I am somewhat disturbed that she thinks that anybody can look good in a SUV; years from now, when the SUV craze will be over, former SUV owners will be denying ever having owned one, because of the embarassment. Think of parents who wore extreme disco clothing in the 1970's trying to explain "bell bottoms" to their kids.

TCM...I asked her how long she held him off and the size of the intersection, she said it was a very wide crossing and not your usual 30 yards, so she held on pretty good.
Driving it in D and not the steptronic option was very costly for her, l promise you she won't do that again.
KGK...Not everybody looks good in the X5, it's just that she does. The X5 is a classic and will never be looked back upon as a POS in styling or function. Maybe in 5-10 years it will look the norm in the power stakes, but l think it a bloody sporty ride for an SAV and kills every other kid carrier around (l know it's not huge in the trunk) but l don't give a hoot. It's more of a tall 540 sport with as much zip.
I like the idea of an 450 hp X5is

This should be like one of those cool Fosters' T.V. commercials, compete with Aussie accents. Definitely a KEEPA!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that auto cars usually get better acceleration times with the gear in Drive instead of trying to shift yourself, even if you do have steptronic. Doesn't the computer do a better job of upshifting at redline than the driver?

Maverick...Stick it in the Steptronic mode in 1st and hit it, that option will work the best for the quickest times. If you don't want to touch the stick in the Steptronic, it will do it for ya at the red line.....very lazzy option. Using D isn't as quick as Step...not much slower, but it likes to change up just a bit earlier then the Steptronic settings.

I see. Exactly how much before redline does it shift if not in steptronic mode?

Apples,

It will shift for you automaticly at redline if your are in steptronic only if you have dsc activated, with dsc off, it will just keep bouncing off the rev limiter......strange but true
