After driving in the desert, I wanted to restore that super clear high gloss to the front end of my car. Also, I wanted to remove all the rock chips from the front end. The car is in really good shape up front, but I want that new car gloss and even look.
I bought a new Roundel for the hood, new washer heads, new grill inserts, and all new underhood insulation and fasteners. The hood will be color sanded and clear coated off of the car at an exceptional shop. The bumper will also be removed with new trim and fog lamps installed. It will be prepped and clear coated too. This is costing me a lot, but I want it perfect.
I thought re-clearcoating a car was very difficult if not impossible using the existing, original base coat. I was told the panel would have to be stripped completely to bare metal and then painted and clear-coated.

You may be correct. I thought you could color sand first and then apply the new clear coat. The shop does Pebble Beach show cars and they won the historic hot rod coupe class last year. They have also won best in show awards year after year with hot rods and classic cars too.
They're preparing for Pebble Beach now. They also built and painted the cars used in all the ZZ-Top music videos. They start charging at about $150,000.00 to do a show car, I believe. It goes up from there. They are working on 3 show cars now.
It is very possible that the are re-painting the hood entirely because I am paying so much for it. The hood is $1500.00 alone. I'm crazy right?
