Advice needed plz!

I was offered a DRIVE in a M5 last night by a good friend of mine. I told him it might not be too wise as I'm only 15 and have only driven the likes of The 325 and the 318 before but i've driven quiete alot since i've been 12. We go usually to an area by an abandoned Airfield and left on my own while my perants take the Dogs for a walk (gone through many tyres HeHe). At first i couldn't believe what he said and i was like . What advice will could you guys give me for when i do drive the car (I don't want the clutch to blow up!) I enjoy full out accelaration (pedal to the metal kind of style) but i don't think i will be like that in the Beast. The car is a 2000 model with only 6000-6500miles on the clock.

Best Clint,

P.S I'm one lucky little sh!te.

I mirror what m5manny said and also never ever give her full throttle until you've completely released the clutch.

Ditto to Jason. Even after you've completely released the clutch pedal, you can still slip the clutch if you are too aggressive on the throttle.

At 6,500 miles, the engine should be fully broken-in, but the tyres not too worn, so you should be able to wring out the car.

Be sure to turn sport mode on. You'll get a quicker throttle reponse, and tighter steering.

The car is very stable with DSC on -- but if you're going to be on the airstrip with plenty of tarmac around you and a safe overrun area, you might experiment with turning DSC off to see how differently the car handles. (BMW doesn't advocate turning off the DSC in normal driving.)

Particularly if the pavement is a bit wet, with DSC off you could initiate a slight turn (10 degrees) at 20 MPH in second gear -- then floor the accelerator and the car will whip around into a spin. That's pretty exciting.

A helmet would be a very wise idea if you're going to do any aggressive maneuvers.

You're a lucky young man, Clint, to have a chance to play in your friend's M5. Have a blast!

Clint,

You'll have to excuse Mike. Either he thinks he's 15 years old as well or too much caffeine. You be the judge.

Don't go too crazy on the airfield at once. Start out slow and build up your confidence. Be very careful with the clutch. Make sure you let it out completely before you floor the accelerator.

My advice: Have fun!

Do not apply full throttle until you are fully off of the clutch. That's about it.

I concur with the others. Make sure you are confindent and know how the car will respond before you really get on it. Also, ask your freind if it is ok to get on it. Nothing worse then when you let someone drive your car and they get crazy in it without telling you beforehand. If it is at an open airfiled, turn off the DSC and have fun. Just do not burn the clutch. This car has more balls in 3rd then the 325 in first, so accelerating will not be a problem. .
