Evolve's Alpha-N tune and the Evolve-R cable "initial' review.

This is my initial review of the Evolve Alpha-N tune and the Evolve-R cable. I will be updating this thread as I add more miles on the car. I have about 100 miles on it now. As many of you know, I originally had the Powerchip Alpha-N tune. I wanted to try Evolve's product just out of curiosity, and boy am I glad I did. I removed the PC tune and reinstalled my stock tune and ran the car for about 100 miles before hooking up the Evolve-R cable and pulling my OEM tune for Sal to look at. I DID NOT send Evolve my Powerchip tune.

I will first show screen shots of the Evolve-R cable and the install process. I will then share my thoughts on the tune.......

I paid for the Evolve-R cable on a Saturday and it arrive, to my surprise, on Wednesday.

Since Evolve just updated their software, they sent me an email that had the latest version on it. Here I am unzipping the files in that email.

The software comes with excellent instructions!

I installed the software, pulled my OEM tune, sent it to Sal, he then emailed me his Evolve Alpha-N tune.

Installing

Finished!

Ok, my initial impressions are, WOW. Words to describe it? Smooth, linear, comfortable, and of course POWERFUL. My car feels AMAZING. Every time I drive it I feel like it gets stronger. The torque is just unreal. From the first time I turned the key it ran perfect. The first tune, on the first try, no codes, no hiccups, no issues AT ALL. I shot a video of the very first start up after installing the tune. I have a Dinan lightened flywheel which typically causes a fluctuating idle, which is not the case with the Evolve tune.

Here the car was sitting for about 48 hours. This is the very first start up after installing the tune. No Maf's. Please ignore the airbag light. I need to reset it after working on my A pillars for my stereo.

ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

A long with programming the tune, the Evolve-R cable can also read and clear DME codes! I will also report that once I get a code to clear! It has been an absolutely wonderful experience working with Sal and Evolve. If you have any questions at all, you should get a hold of him. He is a VERY knowledgeable guy and great to talk to. Thanks again Sal.

It has been great working with a company that has a tested and proven tune. Evolve is the real deal. I am glad I decided to try out their products and have no intention of looking back. The car feels stronger and just plain feels better! I look forward to reporting back to this thread after I add a few more hundred miles. I also want to pick up Evolve's headers, race cats, exhaust, and hopefully their CF CAI when it is released!

Stay tuned folks!

I haven't yet reviewed Evolve's exhaust system + tune, however I can strongly recommend it. The last time I was this scared of a car was when I had a twin turbo V8. My tuned 135i is nowhere near as fun as the M5 now. Also, with the exhaust note you will find yourself choosing new routes just so you can go through tunnels. Wait til the software has datalogging

Thanks for the write up Tim. Clear, concise as very good pre-purchase information for anyone looking at pulling the trigger.
