Used the G-Tec today.... 1st 1/4 mile run got 13.7 @116mph...

Well after getting some new fuses, as the other one blew l thought l may as well give the G Tec a wirl.
Not a good day for testing, as it was bloody hot and humid don't ya love Florida, but it's my virgin test so who cares.
I first did the HP test and only managed to find about 350hp????,so l don't know whats up with that reading as l'm 100% sure it was set right or close enough.....4200lbs and G Tec set flat at 00 reading.
I only did a coulple of HP runs as l didn't want to fry the clutch.
I then did the 1/4 mile test and first up l got a 13.7 sec pass @ 116mph
good trap speed but l must have been a bit slow in the lower RPM's in first???
I tried a few more 1/4 mile times but l think it was getting a bit too hot for her and the extra ones were around 110mph and around 14.5 sec.
So is that trap speed 116 mph good...l think it's good for the conditions ???? and the 13.7 sec about normal??? Whatya think 1/4 mile experts.
I look forward to trying again later in the year with better conditions.

For a G Tech it definetly should be low 13s. I got 13,3-13.4 on my M3 3,2 with 321 HP. Although it was very cold then.

Best timeslip here is RaMsEs with a time of 12,9 or so I think.

Apples,

Like I told you earlier, 116mph is pretty good, I think if the weather is right (40-50degrees and low humidity) you might be able to get 117 or 118 out of her. As far as time goes, I think in those ideal condtions, with traps speeds like that, you should be able to get low 12's out of her (good traction a must). Mid 12's should come with ease, if you do a small burnout on your street tires, just heat em' up a little.....

I tried to organize a track night a while back, but it fell through. When the winter comes around we should put a bunch of nuts together and storm the drag strip.....It would be pretty cool to compare cars in real life driving conditions, not just on a dyno.........

Apples:

116 mph sounds very good. But be carefull, G-tech are known to be imprecise. Personally, I recommend and use AP22 from www.race-technology.com, it is more consistent and gives you more information.

By the way if you want to convert your MPH into HP use following formula:

HP = ((MPH x 0.00426)*3) x Weight

so in your case 116 x 0.00426 = 0.4942, cubed it is 0.121 times 4200, your HP is 507 at the flywheel.

Judging from your dyno of 408HP at the wheels, your flywheel HP at 15% loss should be 480HP.

Pretty close.

The GTech finishing speed, and a track trap speed are two different things. At a track, you pass by two markers (spced apart obviouslly) at the end of the track, and based on the time taken to cover this distance, your trap speed is calculated. So at the track, it is not the speed you're finishing the 1/4 mile with, but rather an average of the last X ft. (I forgot the exact distance).. The Gtech, calculates your speed once at the end of the run, so it will obviouslly be a tad higher..

gee I hope that made at least a little sense

There's absolutely no benefit in doing a burn out in street radials. Slicks, yes, but slicks are made of an entirely different compound, in which a burnout is necessary to bring the sticky residue (I'm not up on the lingo) to the tires surface..

I thouroughly disagree, and so do the laws of physics.

The higher the tempature of any piece rubber, the softer it becomes. Therefore, doing a burnout on ANY type of tire increases that tires ability to maintain traction....That is an irrefutable and undisputable fact

trap speed sounds good, but the time may be a bit low... but then again, I wouldn't trust g-techs for they are known to be inaccurate...
