My ///m5 use too much oill

HELLO PEOPLE

my car have been build at year 1999 and have now 250.000 km drived

now it use 1 liter oil at 350 km , some of people here told me , to overhaul the engine , before to start to do this , maybe it,s something small , for a solution
so i heard someting about vanos trouble , or another small solution , anything what i can see , is i see oil at my exhaust ,when i look at my engine its dry , did not leak somewhere else , and i now oil is comming in my , combustion chamber , but it still does not smoke white or blue , so its not much , but it spits oil , it spits more at high RPM

maybe someone knows more about this issue

i have heard build at 1999 engines where problem engines ,,therefore there was a recall action here in europe from BMW ,but my car does not recalled because it was not neccsary and it used not much oil before
after at build year 2001 or 2002 they changed this engine , they call this short block
can anyone tell me which among part they changed from this engine
i read about piston rings , but i dont know if this is the only , maybe there are more ???

if we start with overhaul so i must be sure if the componets fit in my ingine whitout problems

if someone can help me with this , so i will be very grateful

kind regards hacbas!!!

wants to ask you here a couple of question

FIRST - - do a search and you will find tons of info - - many threads - like what is on this thread;

oil consumption, the solution ?

then you will see things like;

FIRST - ONLY use Castrol TWS 10W-60.

Have you seen any evidence of Oil leaks in the engine bay and underneath pan?

What is the condition of you Oil Separator Hoses. Please consider also renewing or at least cleaning out your Oil Separators also.

Valve cover grommets? Especially the three around the timing chain cover (front portion of the cover)?

What about valve cover gaskets?

Oil cap?

etc etc etc

...meaning - - it's a GOOD IDEA to eliminate those things first - - BEFORE you 'overhaul' this engine. 250,000km is not a lot for this engine if cared for properly, many have gone longer and not had the problems you say you have...

SPITTING OIL??? if oil is entering the cumbustion chambers because of the bad piston rings (which you could check to some degree with a compression test) it will burn it, not spit it out...

-the 'spitting out' you are seeing is probably just carbon - is it black powderish???

1999 engines were not 'problem engines' - - but in the 2001 'facelift' engine changes were mainly a VANOS change (which is not related to the oil usage problem), and the PISTON RINGS - - which did have an effect on oil usage...

good luck

thanks a lot mark Qc , ok i,m gone check first all of this . first , where i can find this oil separator ? or do you mean oil filter ?

if i think just logical, 1 liter oil at ewery 300 km,, just think i lose this , but where is this oil , my car stays front of my door ,
when it wil be leaks some where out of my engine , i must see normaly oil drops on the floor !!! until yet i fil 4 liter oil
and my car at my boardcomputer stays MOTOR OIL ZUSTAND PRUFUNG , so it means check out your oil ,

so i thought , normally when the car use so much oil , certainly must see on the ground . or near the engine alot of oil ,
so i find a little leak beteen my valve cover gasket , but his is a little leak

i.m gratefull for your help , and this weekend check others you write me before !!!

Do the checks that MarkQC advises. Those should be more or less it...

If you cannot engage in such checks, take the car to Frits and his Workshop.

@ mtradwan

my m5 have been build at 11 / 1999 and have now 145.000 km. the engine runs perfect !
now, the engine use 1,5 - 2 liter castrol TWS / 1000 Km.

i take the ignition cables and the sparkplugs out. the thread of the sparkplags was oily.
guys, what could be the problem for oily sparkplugs ??

perhaps..bad piston rings ??

bye,
frank

@ Frank,
is it on both side (bank 1 and 2) im not sure about the e39 but somthing about the crank ventaltion system or the CCV 1.5-2 ltr per 1000 km is way too much.
RealOEM.com * BMW E39 M5 Crankcase-Ventilation/oil separator
somthing about the oil seprator stops working right or gets durty and dumps oil in the intake system
take a look at the air filiter box from inside if theirs oil or even take out the MAF and chek for oil as well.
Head vavle gasket and sparkplug wells seem to fail at 120K km might take alook at those as well.

if u really want to rule out piston or valvue ring, do a compression test another sighn of damage would be white smoke from the exhust.

hope its simple
