Tuning guys ITT. What do you think about ESStunings supercharger tune?

Ok so I'm about to pull the trigger on the ESS vt550 kit.

BimmerBoost - ESS E39 M5 Independent S62 Supercharger Dyno Numbers Continue to Come up Short?

But reading this makes me scared of there tune. Active is about an hour away from me. Would anyone suggest me taking the car to active after the supercharger install and have them re tune it for me? Just an idea.

And why don't any of the cars reach the 500whp claimed number?

Actually, the ESS tune is excellent and those bimmerboost guys crap on everything. They made fun of my 11.84 1/4 mile run as well. A cynical bunch over there.

That said, I've never seen a claim of 500 whp made by ESS. 550 hp at the flywheel works out to closer to 450 at the wheels which many, including myself, have surpassed.

From what I've seen the ESS setup works very well and it has been on a lot of cars for a long time.

Why would a 550 kit net 500whp? The avg drive train loss for FWD is 15% whereas RWD is 18%. It should come out to around 451whp.

Yes, I always thought the "claimed" numbers were flywheel numbers which the kit seems quite capable of.

I had never visited that site before you linked it but they seemed very critical of ESS. I noticed it was stated:

"There are a bunch of pissed off ESS sc'd people on m5board wondering where their horsepower is"

Are there?

Don't see a dyno of that car in stock. From what I've seen it's really not that uncommon to see a stock car dyno -30whp under the claimed hp. The gain is what matters. Might not be the case but just pointing it out.

That being said I've been more than pleased with the ESS setup on my E46. The software is better than OEM.

ESS shows a dyno on there site.

Flywheel numbers they claim:

Horsepower: 542 SAE/550 DIN
Torque: 457 lb-ft/620Nm

And the dyno chart they show a stock run of 335hp. So we know thats not flywheel. Then a supercharged run of 501whp.

Never seen a vt550 hit that mark. Most hit 470whp.

http://www.esstuning.com/products/E3...er-System.html

Kind of fishy?

Maybe the numbers are without the 92 mm pulley?

Shouldn't be. Those numbers are advertised on there vt550 kit.

I'm still going with the kit. Just wondering why they would mislead so many people.

They show a stock dyno of 335hp. So it's obviously not flywheel horsepower. Then a dyno with the kit at 501whp.

Has anyone hit 500whp with a vt550 kit on a stock car?
