A general NAV question

Ok, I admit that this may be a stupid question but here it comes anyway. Does anyone actually know what the heck the "New Route" option does and how it works? I've read the NAV documentation and still don't get it. I've played with the option, during NAV guidance, and it seems like nothing actually happens. From what I understand, it's suppose to either come up with an alternative route for the entered number of miles or let you veer from the current route for the entered number of miles before returning to giving guidance. In either case, it doesn't seemed to be working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

actually, I"m kind of curious about this function as well.. I've tried it a couple of times, but as theXman had said, it didn't seem to do much....

Traffic jam fix?

I'm pretty sure the feature is there to get you around traffic jams. If you're on a road and find out there's some kind of mess in front of you, you can ask for a new route, and hopefully figure out a way around it.
