Just got back from RMS (long)
I just got back from LA after going to check out RMS and where they have reached with my car. Let me tell you something... These guys know what they are doing and what great job they have done. The job was very neat and they are professionals and know what they are doing. I met all the guys there and was happy to get such a warm welcome. I met Jeff at the begining and had a nice long chat with him till Osh appeared. Later Osh took me down to check out my M5 and show me how the job was going. We went down into their workplace and there she was. On the lift with the bonnet popped. As i got closer i could see the huge supercharger mounted on the left side of the engine (my right). The engine cover was removed and the aftercooler was installed in the middle. I was soo impressed with the aftercooler it is beyond words. What a job ! It is actually water injected with small water tanks on both sides allowing constant water flow up and down the aftercooler. The engine cover was made out of carbon fiber and at the same time it was bigger and you can say puffed up for more air circulation.
I took plenty of pictures but Osh doesn't want me to post them yet so for the time being i will only share with them with the Boston gang till he tells me which and when to post.
The other pipes going in and out of the supercharger were made out of carbon fiber. The second thing that impressed me the most (after the aftercooler) was the intakes. The intake pipe was coming out of the supercharger from the right side and then splits into two to enter into the engine. But since they split into two, one had to be longer than the other ie. meaning uneven flow into the engine. But this intake was designed so perfectly that it allows even flow although they were uneven lengths!!! It is kind of hard to explain without seeing the pictures but hoepfully you will when you see them. You will also hear from the rest of the guys of what they think after i show them the pictures.
The car at the moment is basically being assembled together and it was supposed to be fired up for the first time when i was there. They just have wait for the clutch they are building to be ready. The double racing clutch and pressure plate with a light weight flywheel should be ready next week. After that comes the tuning and the road test before this project can be completed. On the dyno was a supercharged e46 330i which Osh was tunning infront of me. He had a laptop with all the graphs on the front seat. I observed him start the car and get it slowly up to speed in first and then second gear and then all for a sudden he backed off and jumped out to go and fiddle with something in the engine. He later came back and gave it a try and nailed it all out. He showed me atleast 5 graphs and explained to me what was happening but i was kinda lost with all the technical stuff he was talking about
Later i met Jason and had a nice little chat with him too. He took me out to show me his 410hp stage II e36 M3. It looked sharp with nice wheels and a very supercharger under the bonnet. I was eager to see how it ran (since so many people bash RMS on here) and he was gald to take me out for a spin. After bringing the engine up to temp, we were off. At the lights, he was easy off the line and then gunned it through second. We took off keeping everyone in the dust with a nice third gear up shift screech. What a car! Honestly it was very fast and would for sure easily beat a stock M5. It had plenty of torque and comparing it with an M5, i would say definently more. The ride was smooth and the supercharger worked perfectly. I asked him how long he had the supercharger and if he faced any problems. He told me for 2 years without any problems. I asked what exhaust he had and he told me Dinan. I thought what is an RMS empolyee doing with a Dinan exhaust and he replied that he actually has just moved from IL before starting to work for RMS. So he got the exhaust long before getting the supercharger or wroking there.
Another car at RMS was a 497hp stage III e36 M3 that belonged to Jeff. I didnt pay alot of attention to it untill i heard it rev. OH MY GOD. I have never heard an engine rev so fast in my life. It probably took only a second for it to red line from idle. I mean i was like what was that when i heard. Very impressive and scary stuff. Now the difference between this stage III M3 (497hp) and the other stage II M3 (410hp) was the water injection cooling system which is already being installed on my car as a complamint. So the extra added power is 80+ and Osh said my car is almost 600 hp now
Lastly, he told me one of the big magazines will test it before it will be sent over and i was syched to hear that. All in all, im very happy to go out to meet the guys and am 100% confident that it will be a great project.

sounds great! make sure you keep on top of them, and make sure the mag that's testing it doesn't kill it before you even get it (in fact, i suggest you be there when the mag tests it).
keep us updated.

I would be very concerned about the magazine testing. They absolutely tear up cars. It's your car but I would'nt let them near it if I were you.
Cant wait to see the pics and hear about the finished product! Please keep us posted. Is there a new projected finish date?

Black M5:
Great news. I must admit I had my doubts with all the different stories and backpeddling that RMS was doing but I am glad to say I am wrong. I want to see these pictures also. You must make a little run at home with the camera going. We will see how your M5 can hold up to the true Beast . Glad to hear everything is going well.

Gents,
I just had lunch with Black M5 and 'Rocket. I saw the pictures. It seems like anything and everything, in the engine bay of Black's car, that could be carbon fiber IS carbon fiber!! POW!
It seems that RMS really has taken the time to do the custom work as well as they possibily can. I'm dying to find out what the dyno results will be and, better yet, how she drives!!!! BAM!
I think a new Uber-Beast is born!

Damn, I was hoping for some pics. It is your car after all, so I dont see why they are being so secretive about the pics. Oh well.
Sounds like a very elaborate setup. No wonder it has taken so long. I cant wait to see the finished product. A 600 hp M5!! What a concept.
I wonder what magzine will be testing it. European Car would be my guess.
One question, is the car intercooled or water injected? There is a difference. Water injection means they actually spray a fine mist of water into the intake, mainly to reduce the combustability of the air and thus preventing detonation. Intercooling (or aftercooling, whichever you prefer to call it) means they actually have a radiator (water or air cooled) that the air flows through to cool it down before enters the engine. From your discription it is difficult to tell which system your car has.
Good luck with the car. It sounds like it will be an awesome machine.

petesamprs,
I won't be there when the magazine will test it cuz im actually done with College and will be leaving at the end of this coming week. I would love to stay to test it but i can't cuz my dad hasn't got a clue what is happening and i already told him im arranging for shipping right now Nevertheless, The Boston crew is prepared to go and check it out when its ready
GreekM5,
Thx.. they already have.. maybe we can arrange for lunch or dinner or something so that i can show you the pictures before i leave.
CM5GO,
I know what you mean but they will have to pay for any damage done (God forbid) to the car including brakes and the clutch. The bright side to it is that the car will be famous. So that equals out
TCM,
Man i think the Lambo might loose to the M5 by what i have seen so far. More horespower, more torque will be tough to beat. I think it might beat the M5 though at maybe the 150 mp/h range. lets see what happens Boston Crew, strap your seat belts.. you are in for the ride of your life when you come to Bahrain in December!!!!!!
Andrew2.8L,
Its an aftercooler but since i saw water tanks in it with water hoses... i said water injected. Im not sure which system it is either. They are being secretive cuz this is the web which can be accessed by everyone and they feel the time is not right at the moment. i think Osh told me road and road will test who are actually waiting for it to be ready because they already have been informed.
Hutzal
Does that i mean i shouldn't sell it in 2 or 3 years time when the e60 M6 is launched ?
Alx,
Please let me pass you when we race so that i dont get embarrassed in front of the guys ok ? (wipers " it will be just between me and you bro ")
