Can't drive my Beast for a while!

Oh, God! How am I going to survive this summer!?!?

Today is a special day here in Sweden. It's the day after the
big celebration of mid summer and the streets are virtually
empty in the morning because 90% of the population has been
up all night celebrating.

I took it rather easy last night and just had a beer or two with
some friends and this morning when I woke up I noticed I didn't
have what I wanted for breakfast. So I took the Beast and
drove to a local store and as the sun was shining, the day was
hot and there was NOBODY out in the streets I was driving the
car a bit faster than usual.

At one spot a very slow driver in a Volvo was behaving very
strangely as he was breaking to make a turn, but wasn't
signaling properly. When I noticed he was turning right, I
accelerated to pass him and RIGHT THEN I was clocked by a
police officer with a laser device. The particular section is a
50 km/h section that a few years ago was a nice 70 km/h
section so most traffic normally flows at around 65 km/h there
anyway. When passing the car I came up to 82 km/h which is
32 km/h above the limit and here in Sweden that means they
can take your license straight away.

They gave me a speeding ticket for 2000 swedish crowns (about
200 U$D) and took my license. Next week I will be informed
about how long time I will be without it, but it looks like at least
two months!

Today is not a good day!!!

Best regards,

Fedde

Ouch, sorry to hear that Fedde . Of all the bad luck, you have to pas when a police officer is out. Shame he could not give you a break on the violation to a lesser fine. Hope you do not lose it for too long and that you will be back in your M5 in no time.

Ridiculous!!!

Why do they have such severe penalties for speeding in Sweden? 32kph above the limit is nothing!

Holy ****!
What an *******!
In Germany 32kph above the limit means 3 Pts. in our Flensburg record and 100€ fine and in addition to that 1 month of illegal driving w/o license :-).
I don't know what exact rules Sweden has, but try to find a lawyer and ask him if there is any chance fighting the ticket.
That is typical for police, isn't it. No traffic, no danger, but laser/radar traps.
Man that sucks!

m.. well.. that is nearly 70% above the speed limit though....

but it does suck for them to take away your license.... hopefully it'll just be a few weeks and won't be too long

that's very harsh of them to take your license away. I remember reading that Gustav had his taken away sometime ago as well. Hope you'll get it back very soon!

That's extraordinarily harsh. The suspension seems out of proportion to the fine. For a one-time event too.
Many sympathies.

Wow that is awful.

Did I mention I hate Volvo drivers too? Menaces on the roads here too. Safe? How much damage can you get when you drive 2KPH everywhere?

Boy, I thought Virginia cops were harsh, that's terrible!
Ditto to you X5Boston, Volvo drivers are the worst........ I think they have some idea they're driving with a forcefield around them or something.
