upgrading nav and screen software without nav system
Hi,
anyone have any ideas how I can upgrade my software for the nav screen in my car in HK? There's a screen (the old 4:3) but then there's no Nav CD drive in the trunk.. so nowhere to put an upgrade CD in... so how can I upgrade the software?

No nav cd-rom drive at all?  Does your HK car have nav in the first place? It must if you have the old screen? Hmmm, could it be that someone stole the nav cd-rom player?

well, there's no Nav system in HK.. but my car in HK does have the screen... the old 4:3 one.... nearly all the BMW's in HK come standard with the screen, but none of them come with the Nav CD drive in the trunk... so I'm curious how they ever update the software in these cars...

Wow. One possibility would be that they hook up a compatible cd-rom drive just to do the upload. Or, they just don't upgrade the software period.
What does your dealer in HK say? I would be curious to know.

I haven't asked my dealer yet, but then I wanted to upgrade my software, 'coz whatever version it's using right now, the displayed text is REALLY ugly.... most likely the dealer in HK won't know anything...

Man, I didn't know Chambers had a dealership in HK? 
Seriously though, is there evidence of your HK car being wired for a Nav cd-rom drive? Are there any hook ups?
If so, it may be worth your while to find a unit on eBay or something. Just a thought.

buy a nav cd drive just to upgrade the software? bleh... no thanx.. too much of a hassle... besides, I've decided that I HATE my car in HK.. if the one in Boston is a M5, this one here is at best a M540.... it's such a piece of crap after being abused by my father....

Hey Terence, I resent that "M540" comment . Strange that the car has no CD. Maybe you have to repogram it using the ecu?
