OT: V1 hardwire on X5?

I know this is off-topic for this board, but I have hardwired a V1 on my M5 and I want to do the same on my x5. The panel with the sunroof switch and map lights is a little different than the M. Does anyone know how it comes off? Other than that is the procedure the same as with the M? I can't remember exactly which wire is the one to splice in, white with green stripe? Thanks for any help.

M5Bob,

The white with green stripe is the one I stripped on my M5, it is one of the wires going into the Homelink. Best of luck!

Rob,

I must agree with 'Rocket that it's probably the green/white wire. Might you own a Fluke or Beckman meter so you could be sure? I use mine all the time. Had to fire it up when I hardwired a V1 into my Expedition.

As for getting that little panel off without breaking it, I have to take the wife's X5 in for service this Saturday at my local dealer. I always go in the back and watch the tech's work on my cars. If you'd like, at that time I can ask how to remove it. Will even take my digital camera if that would help out more.

Just say the word,

DWP

Bob, the light panel pops out with a screwdriver. It IS a tight fit, so becareful and take your time.

I used the BROWN wire on the homelink harness (Take the Homelink unit all the way out and you'll see it, it's the harness that connects to the actual Homelink unit itself). There is room to stuff extra wiring BEHIND all the switches. There is no room elsewhere.

Diamond Dave-
That would be great if you could ask him how to pop it off. Thanks.

Bob,

Do you want to try Chris' recommendation first or just wait until this Saturday when I'll be at Classic? Given that Chris says it's a tight fit, you really want to be careful. Also, don't know what your interior color is but make sure your hands are clean!

Regards,

DWP

I completely forgot that I did a quick writeup on this on bimmer.org!

http://bimmer.roadfly.org/bmw/forums...=703401&page=1

This should give you a good idea of what I did. I also installed the MAYDAY switch as well, so you can ignore that documentation.
