        runaway climate control?

This is happening in my 2000 M5 and my friend's 2000 M5 too. After a few minutes the fan races up to maximum speed even though the indicator says it's still at level 2 or 3. Then every 30 seconds or so, it comes back down for a few seconds, then races up again. This happens no matter what fan speed I set.

Anyone else seen this problem? It's more than annoying.

yes. my 2000 had that problem too. simple fix and dealers are fully aware of it. it is called the "hvac stage resistor" or something like that.

You guys are all correct about the resistor. Happened to my M5 and my Sainted Mother's 540i. Steve is right that it takes about 20 minutes to replace. Believe it's located under the dash where the passenger footwell is.

Don't drop off the car. Wait for this quick repair. Under warranty, too!

        Regards,

        DWP

Had it happen to mine, and the dealer fixed while I waited. took about 5 minutes. Cracked me up though, turn it on low and it would blow like a blizzard with the lights registering low!
