Check out this car, perfectly set up M3 for a very reasonable price.

http://www.hparker.com/M3forsale.htm

He is on an open track group we have out here in Calif. He is off to grad school and needs to sell the car. Obviously, you couldn't buy this car but it is a good example of what is out there. Actually, if the Stockholm you are in is the one in Sweden, M3's are likely much more money. I would go for a 1988-1991 325is with full suspension, etc. Only about 2800lbs and durable engines.

Vince,

The Euro M Coupé is an execellent track car and with some minor mods, it'll be as fast as Porsche RS cars.

The Elise is a fantastic car but I find a bit underpowered.

Other cars to consider would be an E36 M3, E30 M3, Porsche 964 RS or maybe a Mazda Miata.

Cheers,
/Johan

Actually M3 are much cheaper here they also have a lot more power.

It is just not fair. Then again, it is 70 degrees outside and sunny and I get to go to Laguna with the Ferrari Club in a week. I am happy again.

Check out the big, old beast on the track at www.headonphotos.net. Click on PDC event at Laguna on 4/26 and then on the "BMW" link. Also, lots of other great shots of other cars.

For any of you that want something dedicated for the track that will give you the biggest bang for the buck, check out this page on 250 shifter karts: http://users.cyberzane.net/rforker/GTHomepage.htm
0-60 MPH = 3.2sec, 1/4 mile 9 sec,top speed 175 MPH, cornering 2.6g, weight/HP 3.0 exceeds an Indy Light

However, it would definitely be a good idea to get some expereince in a 125 shifter kart first!!!

If you want a track car I'd say go with something older and less refined. You don't need leather and 6 speaker sterios in a track car, if thats all its for. I would say go with an E30 M3, 2002, 1970s Porsche 911s, ect. That way you can pick up a car for cheap and put all the money into mods.

I would say that your lower income tax more than make up for the price difference.

Did you say track? Need a trackday soon it's already been two weeks since the last one, gotta have a trackday now!

Nice pics, your car looks good on the track.

Cheers,
/Johan

I don't want to sound totally out of place, but I recently attended the Bondurant High Performance class and we drove Mustangs. Although I was first disappointed of having to drive only Mustangs, I came away with a favorable impression of their cars. They were race prepped by Roush Racing and rode on shaved Goodyears. I couldn't believe how flat and neutral handling they were throughout the course and the brakes never faded, however, I did experience a broken caliper on one car.

The Mustangs are certainly affordable and parts are readily available. I don't think I would want to drive a Mustang on a daily basis, but it certainly may not be bad as a weekend warrior.

Thanks for all the suggestions, now I have so many ideas I don't know what to do

I don't mean to offend anybody but I feel the the Miata and the MR2 are a bit underpowered for my taste (I may end up driving an MR2 this summer so may be I will be proven wrong). BTW M5_Surge don't forget to tell us how you do in the Autocross :p

SKXM5 - I had thought about getting a mustang. I am sure you can build a good track car out of one of these but I am not a great fan of the looks.

JohnH - Caterham, good idea, probably very fun to drive. That's probably the rational decision

But I must say E36, Z3 coupe, E30 or old Porsche are the ideas I like the best. I will probably end up being faithfull to my favorite brand
We will see I am not in a hurry

Cheers
