SL55 AMG Gumball car in my possession.

It's mental, mental, mental. Makes the GT2 look slow and lethargic. No word of a lie, on full acceleration it sound like a pack of Ducati 996's flying past you. It just goes and goes and goes.
Pic's are on the way if I can e-mail them to some one and they can post them (Adam?? We know you have the technology!!)
Had a lot of fun this weekend, German plates, Monaco registered car.......speed cameras......Bothered!!!!

so you went the AMG route! I take it by your post you picked it up in Europe, and drove it back?
Sounds like a herd of Dukes. lovely, had a 996 Ducati pass me (slowly) and even that sounded the part.
Have fun
AG

Lonman -

don't hold out on us!! What about the handling, brakes, and transmission??? I don't doubt the car has tremendous accelearation (I still find it amazing that the GT2 is now "slow and lethargic"!!), but I would have assumed the handling, braking and the automatic transmission would be too much to overcome to make this a premier sports car.

What are your preliminary thoughts???

So simple....!

Mercedes suddenly realized that people were profiteering from their cars, and put a block on all deliveries untill they could be sure of the sincerity of the owners desire to keep the car. They then tried to have several people who were awaiting delivery sign a contract to stop them from selling at a profit within one year.......oh! My car was purchased in full before they realised what was going on, and so deal done....we got away with it. It was driven back from Monaco on Sat afternoon.
I picked it up on Sunday am, and spent the day running it in further for the Gumball.( It's now on it's way to the docks, 24 hours after I picked it up!!)
First impression is that it is a much much better looking car in the flesh. Low, angular and aggressive.
Now to cut a long story short, everyone knows it's fast (8 seconds quicker that the GT2, and 2 seconds quicker than the New Lambo ( I still can't spell or say the sodding name!), everyone knows it a Merc, and so will never handle like a Porsche.
But the one thing that I was quite simply not ready for, indeed the most amazing thing about this car, is the most truely deep muscle car noise. It is a monster. Little kids really do cry when to boot it past them. Middle aged men block thier ears. Mothers look at you in disgust.....it's staggering, absolutely staggering that MB actually sat down and said," Yes, Lets make it"
Gadgets: Air conditioned/heated/massage seats, suspension that raises 5 cm when needed, keyless entry and start up, air con in centre console and glove box, fully auto/paddleshift/SMG(like on the M3 (all as standard) + lots, lots more....

Rave M5 you will have to back on this when we meet on the Gumball.....it's just noise, noise noise. 106DB at 4000 rpm ( 0.5m from pipe)
