a few weeks ago i described my trashing a set of StopTech rotors and Pagid orange pads from a- improper bedding? b-aggressive driving? c-something else?
Greg ran the tt with Pagid Oranges and i the M5 with new front rotors and Oranges at Laguna Sat & Sun -- we both looked at the rotors before we went out, and i used about 6 laps on the first session bedding pads and brought it in to cool (the brakes had already been bedded when installed) -- on both our cars there was a clear difference between the clean metal rotor before and the kind of bright gray sheen of deposited pad material after (now that i know what to look for)
one of the S4 guys there running Oranges with Brembos street and track (he does a lot of track events) confirmed that ABSOLUTELY the Oranges must be bedded before every event -- driving them cold on the street removes the pad material deposited during bedding which will result in uneven pad transfer if you go out and get them hot immediately -- even then he occasionally gets some uneven pad deposition which will often go away (as Greg and i both experienced to varying degrees over the two days)
someone also gave Greg a trick that spraying the brakes with water, letting them develop rust film, and then using the brakes and re-bedding will some times take off the uneven pad deposition -- will try this as soon as the occasion arises
the good news is that after bedding and hard running on track, they don's squeal -- i sort of infer that when the squeal comes back it will indicate the pad material has been removed from the rotors
do other pads like the Carbotech Panther Plus behave the same?
