        RDS - TMC in UK

Just picked up some news from the dealer today. RDS-TMC (Traffic Message Channel) which overlays traffic information such as slow moving traffic, road works, accidents, etc. onto the NAV screen and gives you the option to divert to a revised route will be available to us "later this year". The release info. I was given looks impressive: clear warnings of obstructions ahead before it's too late to divert, optional re-routing to destination, screen decluttering (that's techno speak for getting minimal information on the screen if your map scale is too large) and slow traffic graduated indications. The RDS-TMC information is already being transmitted by Classic FM in the UK and is available to "Bangle 7 series" owners now; we have to wait and it will be a cost option/upgrade to the NAV software (post 3-1/40 or 18.1). Yes, I did ask the question "how much?" but they didn't have any idea. Anything has got to be better than Trafficmaster and those dated DOS type graphic screens that look like something out of the seventies.
