Just spent about 20 mins perusing through various search terms and couldnt find any threads on replacing the OEM ignition key with a new one. The buttons on mine are not working so well. Where do I get a new one, or can someone point me towards a thread on this?
$175 doesnt seem too bad. Im willing to pay that so my car will unlock as im walking to it, and not have to press the button 40 times before it unlocks.
Thanks for the info guys, im going to look up a dealer near here and give them a call.
Are there different styles of keys? Mine is shown below. The buttons are worn but when you actually depress it nothing happens. You can hear the internal button click but no response from the car.
Found out if i turn my key over (BMW logo facing towards the ground) and tap the back case, everything starts working. Is there a way to pop this key open and find what is loose inside?
I drive it every day. I thought it may not be recharging, but now it works every time when I tap it before hitting the buttons. Now that im at work with some more complex tools, I may try popping the key open to see whats loose (im assuming I will find a loose connector or battery or something).
Well that didnt work. Cant get it apart without mangling the plastic case. Not sure what the locking mechanism is on the inside that holds the two case halves together.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
