I don't know if people have seen these before, but I've been all over this board for a while now and never saw them until now. These clearly show the engine components up close in high quality. I was slightly aroused when I found them
Actually i did the VANOS R+R when I was taking Fast-Trak in Cleveland (3 month shorter version of STEP.)
At STEP in NJ I had to witness BMW destroy 2 beautiful S62's simply because they had served their training life
This is so true and apply to all the modern M engines. They should learn from the italians who still show off their engines.
Great pictures in the album although I almost cried when I saw this crack in the flange:
and that's what happens when you don't line up the VANOS oil pump holes to the cam drive lugs, but still use the bolts to "press" the vanos unit onto the front cover as a previous class did when the instructor wasn't watching.
All those sexy pieces...Makes one wonder why BMW covered it all with that huge black manhole cover like ther was nothing beeter than some rochester quadrajet mounted under there...S14 and S38 era motors showed all their bits proudly...

I see the TPS' attached to the rearmost throttle bodies. As we move away from the centerline of the motor what comes next? It is intake CPS and then exhaust or vice versa?
In the not too distant future I might change them all (nearing 100k) and I'm thinking they might be way easier to swap out with the valve covers off. Mine might be weeping so I'm wondering if taking the covers off makes the CPS changes downright simple. Do it all at once.
Awesome pics !!! you can see our crappy oil cooler... if you can call it that LOL
