Reminder for those of us with low mileage cars, shopping for low mileage cars or with cars that sit for long periods

My father has a 2005 Chrysler 300C. It has 25K miles on it because he and his wife rarely drive it, keep it garaged and simply baby it. They simply take it out every so often, but have kept up with dealer service intervals. Well, they made a 700 mile road trip to see us last week. We hung out for a few days and then started on a 30 mile local roadtrip. 15 miles into it, his tranny starts acting up. They have it towed to a Chrysler dealership. The dealer checks it and says that the transmission fluid is clear. Not red or any shade of it. At this point, my Dad knows that he's looking at a rebuilt tranny or a new one. He is not pleased until he recalls the after-market warranty that they purchased. It covers any and all work on the tranny. So, a day later, the dealer drops a new tranny in at no cost to my dad. Problem solved. With clear tranny fluid, my only thought was that there was some kind of condensation which resulted in diluted tranny fluid. Turns out that there was a gasket leak, they drove through rain on the way to see us, water leaked in and diluted the fluid. Just an example of a neglected simple fix resulting in what would have been a major (and expensive) headache. My dad has resolved to drive the car more often...

Cars are meant to be driven, I crank mine up and warm it up to temp every few days, when the oil completely leaks down into the oil pan its not very healthy for the motor.
