Hi. I have a paper due tomorrow, and have a severe case of writer's block.

It's about the Arts:
What purposes do the fine arts serve?

Where do you think the arts MUST exist, and justify the need to support them [with govt grants etc].

I'll be eternally grateful to anyone who chips in!!

I find the purpose of the arts is the agitate and excite the mind. When looking at the "Masters" I find myself getting chills just at the detail of their work. Some lesser known artists have elicted the same feelings with their works. It is with art that we begin to share our fantasies and thereby begin the process of fulfilling those fantasies. Look at the early movies concerning space travel. They had no clue what we would find out there yet the possibilities excited the general public so much that we made the space race a top priority in the '60's.
