Muffler delete feedback
Hey Guys, I have posted a reply elsewhere but thought this would also be a good place to post my feedback on my muffler delete experience.
Timmays tips arrived on Thursday & were installed on Friday in conjunction with the muffler delete. So, what do I think?
Timmays tips are excellent. They are slightly larger, but not boy racer-ish & all the better for it. Excellent workmanship too. Well worth the money. The Kiwi M5 script looks awesome, but is not so obvious as to look like I am pimping the car.
Onto the muffler delete. T'was quite a job getting everything lined up & but it all came together in the end. Total time was ~2 hrs & only NZ$200. Good value. As to the sound the car now makes, here is my opinion after 2 separate decent drives around town & the motorway:
Up to 2000rpm, it sounds like a cross between a old style Subaru flat four throb & a lumpy V8 but in a good way.
At about 2200-2400, there is a higher pitch crossover note which is semi-drony but only if you sat at those revs.
From about 2500rpm, the V8 sound really starts to come out & sound something like a cross between a NASCAR V8 & the Chevy V8's as you get up into the rpm. Very very addictive.
As described, the exhaust character changes across the whole range, but with the standard mufflers, it is pretty much the same, just different in volume.
At a constant 100km/hr or 2000rpm, the exhaust volume is only mildly louder, but in a nice way & not really noticeable. Just as you pick up speed, you get that higher pitch crossover sound for a moment & then the V8 sound comes through & it is really quite something.
I am looking to take a 200km round trip to this weekend & see if it this new exhaust character grows on me or, if after 200+km, the novelty wears off at which point I will simply put the original mufflers back on.
