I have a 2001 540 with CPT8000, VR, TV Module and of course, the NAV. Everything was working fine until I figured I needed the latest and greatest software so I downloaded the CDs.
I popped in the 18.0 CD and halfway through the progress bar an error occurs. Tried several times with the same result. So I figure I might as well try out the 18.2 CD and it gets an error at the same spot.
At this point I eject the CD and restart the car. The Menu comes up but no GPS, Everything else is there, phone, TV and even the VR works. Took it to the dealer to get the software reinstalled but they ran into the same error and blamed it on the TV
When I got home tonight, I disconnected the TV module and reattached the connections as they were originally. Nothing shows up on the screen, I proceeded to insert the 18.0 disc and the installation message comes up and the progress bar stops at the same point with an error, I eject the CD and back to a blank screen again.
At this point I reattached the TV module, since I had nothing more to lose. The Menu comes back up with everything except the NAV.
All I can deduce is that the connection is working fine and it must be the NAV computer. Is there anyway to do a reboot of the NAV computer because it seems to be labotimized right now and not taking any software installations. Does anyone in the NY or Boston area have the 17.3 software I can try installing or a set of 18.0 software that's you've had success with.
The TV module does indeed have code in it to run the cars 'options' -- thats why you have a menu when you connect it back up to the car. As far as the error goes, you know what we're going to ask -- what exactly was the error?

Did you buy it from Nav-TV?
i had a problem where i didn't get nav as part of the menu option as well...
problem: installer crossed the wrong Nav wires ...
data, power and ground wires..
I did the installation myself with SVTWEBs instructions, It's been working for about a year on the old software so I don't think it's a wire crossing issue
my nav upgrade also stalled half way through the process. Eventually I re-burned the software using a lower speed (original was burned at 32X, I burnt the second cd at 8x). With the second disk the upgrade completed.
Not sure if this applicable, but I hope this helps.

In this case, the dealer's CD also failed to update the NAV and aborted in the same place. I would assume the dealer did NOT use a bootleg copy of the software burned onto a CDR.
At this point, I would try to back out your NAV TV modifications to the point that your car is returned to stock. Try upgrading yourself and, if that fails, take it to ANOTHER dealer and make no mention of your mods. Let them troubleshoot the problem with your NAV unit.
