My new 4.6is has a very quite maxium nav voice...why???

I just got the new 4.6is and have been getting familiar to the larger nav screen and it's differences. The nav is miles better then my 2000 M5's set up.
But that dam navigation lady is way too quite in the X5. I've set her to the max setting and she can hardly be heard at normal highway speeds, and thats with the radio turned down pretty low. Her max voice setting never even gets close to the loudness of the radio for it's setting at that time. I played with the nav voice from min to max, and there really isn't any difference between the two ends.....why the hell not
To here her ok l would have to turn the volume of the stereo up quite loud to catch what she's going on about.
My M5 has quite a difference from min to max settings, so l don't know what to do about it???
Maybe l've got my first lemon car...
Your help is very much needed on this stupid fault.

My 2002 is the same way. The dealer said BMW needs to address the problem.

The only way I have around it is turn it up to max. Then turn the radio up very loud and then turn off the radio. Now you can hear the NAV system.

Of course you can't hear your radio.

Bart... l would have to say that if your true about BMW's screw up with the volume control....then that is one "bone head" move on their part. How could this get by them when they were testing the system to 100%.......maybe they only spent 10 min's on the 2002 cars before they sent them out.....
Her voice is the only women's l want to here over M5 or X5's sexy sound....but not all the time though.

That's very odd....my brother had the same issue with his 2002 X5 4.4i when he first started driving it. He asked me about it and I have to admit that I was stumped. A few weeks later it suddenly started acting normally. Now the volume changes when we adjust it from minimum to maximum and it's also plenty loud enough! Go figure!

My guess is that this was just a hiccup in the system which may or may not go away.

Apples, what version of the NAV software do you have in our X5? To check, go to the "SETTINGS" menu from the Main Menu. In the upper right hand corner you should see a software revision, like 3-1/40. The latest version is 3-1/41. I did have the volume problem with 3-1/40, but it's better (but still not perfect) with 3-1/41. You can bet there will be a fix -- soon!

But for now, just check what version you have.

I'm not sure that it has to do with the software versions. My brother had 3-1/41 when we first picked up the X5 and it had the volume issue too.

        Apples,
I addressed the same problem a couple of weeks ago on the board. I stepped out of an '01 M5 and into an '02 M5 and I must say the NAV volume is majorly annoying. The NaV volume setting only adjusts the loudness of the background music source (i.e. radio, CD, tape playback). The owner's manual states something to the effect that if the minimal volume setting in the NAV is not satisfactory to contact your BMW service center .

Apples, please post some pictures of your 4.6is! I really want to get one of these in the worst way for my wife. What color combination is it? And how do you like it so far?

        Thanks,
        BIMMEUP
        Matt

        Nav Volume Settings

It's pretty easy to set the volume of the Navigation guidance from the service menu.

Select the "settings" menu. Hold down the "Menu" button until the service menu appears. Select the item for Nav Volume and set it as loudly or softly as you like.

If you often drive with the windows open or the Radio/CD playing loudly, you should set the Nav volume loud enough to be heard over the background noise.

        Jim,

Apples did go to the settings menu to adjust the volume setting but it did absolutely nothing for him. I had the same issue with my brother's X5 too.

At low speeds or when stopped, the NAV voice may be acceptable. But when you start going faster, the volume doesn't keep up above the noise level.
