Having the 2000's sound system with no upgrade, I was wondering what are you guy's settings on the different ranges in the DSP setting menu.
I can't recall my current settings but will certainly apply them once I get a general consensus on the best possible settings. Thanks in advance
P.S. here is a picture of my father's M5. Sorry for the poor quality as it was scanned from a developped picture
And here's the address to my new hobbystage M5 album. You'll see that most of the pictures were taken By Jason (atomic80) at our Seattle mini-meet 3 weeks ago
I have DSP with M-Audio (SA752). I find it sounds best with Room & Echo set relatively low and the graphic equalizer set in an inverted standard deviation curve i.e. more db at both extremes but less in the midrange....
Something like this:
XX XXX
XXX XXXX
XXXX XXXX
XXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXX
Hope this helps - a lot depends on the recording (how bass heavy etc.).
No one setting is going to work for all kinds of recordings / music.
I have had a hard time finding a versatile setting. I find some songs are over bassy and some dont have much at all on the same settings.
I wish I could lose the whole system in its entirety and star all over with some quality aftermarket products but I dont want to lose the nav.
Overall, I am not extremely impressed with the stock system. Although it really depends on what day you ask me. Sometimes songs sound amazing and sometimes they are very dissappointing.

Good point Chris - if a particular track is, for example, too boomy on the bass, I don't bother reconfiguring the DSP - I just press tone (left side of 'tone select' button) and reduce the bass that way - works fine.
Stock setting work fine exfcept for too much echo when listening to talk radio or NPR.
Previous posts are correct, no one setting is going to be right for all music. Stock is a good compromise.

On mine...I just have the bass turned all the way up in both the tone and DSP setting. I've also tweaked the settings a bit so my treble is a bit lower than the bass with the other 5 frequencies going down. Sounds fine to me. This is what Jet Black in Van heard when he sat in my car.
Bear in mind that I listen to a lot of classical music.

Jet et all;
I recently tried these settings and they work very well for jazz and rock (especially mid to high volumes).
In order, my DSP settings are +6, 0, -2, 0, +1, +4, +8. I keep the room & echo flat.
Use the bass & treble to season to taste (and music type). Mine are at treble +4 & bass +2. Some songs may need more bass if you'd like.
These settings take the boom away but still let you feel the music.
