Nope, the name refers to the original NASCAR "Grand National" series, (not the current Busch Grand National series) which is now called "Winston Cup"

So it's roundy round racing that the car is named for But Drag racing is where it has made it's name.

Isn't the NHRA championship called the "Grand Nationals?" I don't know but you are right about the NASCAR "Grand National" series.

The NHRA seems to put the word "national" after every one of their events - Gator National is a race in Florida, Cajun National is the race that used to be held in Baton Rouge, Winter Nationals is another one, etc....
So I see where you got that idea from.

But I'm not sure exactly what the name for the whole NHRA series is.
