twisted seat

I'm having a issue with my front seats and the adjustment. When I try to raise the base of my seat, the left side of the seat rises, but the right side gets stuck and doesn't come up. I'm not talking about the back of the chair, I'm talking about the area where your butt goes.

I tried to spray some WD-40 down there, but that didn't help at all. I may have to resort to just taking the chair out completely and inspecting it, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if so, how did you fix it?

My passenger seat does the same thing. I assume it's a failed motor or something but haven't removed it yet for closer inspection.

Probably the cables. Do a search on "twisted seat". That will be a good place to start

Mine is currently doing the same thing, my dealer stated there is a repair kit for it and it runs about $60. I have yet to confirm this, but like the earlier post, it is probably cable related.

I used to have an e39 M5 and experienced the dreaded Twisted Seat Problem. In most cases it happens because drive cables go bad. Either the cable sheath (outer layer) gets longer or the flexible metal drive cable inside gets shorter. If found a write up online and fixed it myself without spending any money. You remove the seat bolts, tilt the seat back, remove the motor assembly under the seat (tight space), disconnect the cables, remove the metal fitting on the end of the cable (used a lighter the heat it up), trim back the sheath, put the metal end back on and reassemble. Before starting, use the working side and make sure the seat is straight. Looking at it from several angles. I had to disconnect things a second time because I did not have it just right the first time. If you take it to the dealership tell them to just replace the cables otherwise they will likely charge you for an entire seat.

Guys, does that DIY work for fixing the seat's base? From what I read, and maybe I am misreading it, but it is regarding the seat's back. Am I missing something? Since today my car has the same problem as the OP's. Driver seat wont go up and down on the inner side. Any insight of any of you...?
My seat back works fine...just the base's tilt is not working. thanks

The DIY works for the base. In fact it's even easier as you don't need to worry about lining up the seatback without a reference point.... just run the seat all the way down and shorten the housing.
