470HP kit and 500HP kit due soon!
Hi all,
My guess is everyone already knows about this, but according to Dinan, there will be kits coming out soon for the M5. Don't quote me (rather him) on this, but a 470 HP kit, naturally asperated, is due out around May. He asked that you don't call Dinan and ask, as they'll release it soon enough.
Anyway, the 470 HP kit will include software, intake, air flow meters, throttle body, all the normal "good stuff". This will cost upwards of $10K.
The kicker is the 500HP kit. While being explained, it really made alot of sense why the kit will cost upwards of $45K. It was explained that a 500HP kit (SCharged) put on an M5 also needs a myriad of other upgrades to keep the car safe, and reliable. Including those upgrades mentioned above, Dinan's 500HP kit will include new brakes, rotors, etc, new wheels, suspension, etc. My guess is for those who have already taken the plunge for many of these upgrades, will have the $$$ amount credited back toward the cost of the SC kit - but that's up to the master minds at Dinan.
Anyone considering this? Again, please don't call Dinan about this, as this is all the info currently available. They will release within the next few months. I'll also post as I hear more...

$45k will presumably be half the price of the new 500hp V10 M5, and at $450/hp, the expense would be such that it would not make economic sense, I fear....
Now, getting 70hp for $10k is $147/hp, a much better deal.

There must have been a typo. For a second there I thought you said that the sc kit for the M5 would be $45 THOUSAND DOLLARS!
Thats the biggest joke I have ever heard in my life. Almost as funny as a $1300 dollar intake!

$30k for another 30hp increase??? Steve Dinan must have gone mad!! If the supercharger was pumping out 600hp, then maybe some people would consider it.... but why would anyone pay that kind of money for a little tiny extra bit of power????

TFung and I were at Gallery BMW and the Dinan parts guy was telling us about the 470hp kit that is coming soon. Wow!
Also Gallery BMW may have a Dinan car (540SC or M5) in the summer for a week for anyone to test drive. I think the M5 boys should press the dealership to ask for the Dinan M5 eh?

Ha ha ha ha
That has to be a joke. Hmmm... while we're at it, why don't we ask him how many of the ISR's * have been sold?
(* $80K for a Z3) was just as laughable.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
let me put my finance hat on
$45,000 @ 10% in 3 years = $59,895
add $100 per month & it becomes $63,867.
No thanks Steve

With that $45k price tag for 100 extra horsepower, having just 400 hp stock is looking better and better!
What surprises me is that if Dinan is going to be able to wring out 70 extra horsepower with just an intake, software upgrade, air flow meter, throttle body and a few other things then why is it we'd only get 30 extra horsepower with a supercharger thrown into the mix? This truly is confusing stuff we've got here. I suspect that headers would also be part of the $10k price tag too.

Unless you're going to disassemble the engine and change pistons, you aren't going to run much boost pressure with a supercharger on an M5, and I don't think that even for $45K Dinan's contemplating swapping in a lower-compression longblock (which would also complicate smog-certification enormously.)
The 470hp package sounds like a reasonable approach, though it's still a fair bit of money but not out of line with other vendors/mods.
The blower package is another story- a little boost pressure (so minimal HP gain) from a centrifugal blower (so it's all top-end power) on a very high-compression engine (so fuel quality and detonation avoidance becomes crucial) plus the extra weight, noise, and engine compartment clutter of the blower installation...forget it.

Sounds interesting even at 45k for 500 hp that’s about what Nowack charges. Dinan is US based with a good reputation, Nowack on the other hand is German based with a less than good reputation (that’s being nice).
