What is this rattling noise? (Working Video inside....)

There is an ominous rattling noise :)sad1:) originating from the front driver side of my motor, maybe around the valve cover area but I can't tell for sure. The noise is intermittent, that is to say it happens every 5-10 seconds. Here is a quick vid I took earlier today, sorry about the wind noise but if you listen closely you will hear the rattling noise in the background beginning in the middle of the video and continuing to the end. The whining/grinding noise coming from the fan/water pump area is another noise I'm worried about but that's been hanging around for a few months now, I welcome any guesses as to what either or both noises could be. I'm guessing water pump pulley for the whining noise and chain guide or VANOS noise for the rattle? Nothing has ever been changed on the front side of the motor (original belts, pulleys, tensioner, accessories, etc). The fan clutch is fine btw and there are no codes or SES light...

Edit: apparently youtube is taking its sweet time processing the video....so you can download the vid here (58 MB):

ok guys, the vid is working now, you can really hear the rattling at about 30 seconds and onwards, it's like a rock inside a soda can type of sound. The car is going into the shop tomorrow but it's not a BMW specific shop so if it's VANOS related I don't think they'll be able to diagnose it properly....does it sound like VANOS noise?

waterpump thats almost faling ? or the coolingfan/clutch thats almost going ?belt tensioner that has some play?

all are in that region where you filmed,i would guess something like that..although its hard to pinpoint from the vid.
everything you mentioned allready ..

well done gentlemen, your guesses were right on. The shop just called and said it was indeed the power steering pump pulley causing BOTH the whine and the rattle. Turns out I was missing a bolt on the PS pump bracket and consequently I need a new pulley and new belt but the pump itself is fine. $315 in p + l and I should be back on the road in a couple of days!

I'm psyched!
