Well, Marin Catholic High School is throwing a fashion show as a fund raiser at the Marin County Civic Center, and today the directors told me that the Mini Cooper will debute in the Bay Area at the fashion show. If anyone wants to come, I'd highly recommend it. I will be one of the models in the show. Let me know if you're interested.
Although to be honest, I think there is too much hype over the mini. Maybe I am missing something? I don't think they look that great either, IMHO. did they just look at the sucess of the new VW Beatle and decide to copy that?

You are missing something. The Mini may be the best loved car that was ever made - with the possible exception of the VW Bug. But the mini actually handled, and could be made to handle REALLY well. I for one am really, really pleased to see BMW bring it back, and to preserve so much of its visual character while applying modern engineering, materials and manufacturing to make it better in every respect than the original.

Yeah, the Mini really was a technological breakthrough although the hydraulic (hydrolastic) suspension was a later addition. The racing boys (and the boy-racers) preferred the original rubber cone suspension on the Mini (standard kit until the mid-60s). It was firmer and a bit lighter as I remember.
